I have to ask that you know a little something about the Fair Tax Plan before you post an answer. http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer?pagename=about_main

The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.

The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 1025) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.

Why would this be good or bad for America?

Just looking for an estimate only. I pay Federal/State as single head of household. I have gotten married and had 3 children since I began my job 7 years ago and never updated my status. We get a generous $7000 range tax return every year which is great (I make around $70,000). However now I would like to maximize my take home pay without owing money back each year. I have since changed to married with 1 allowance. I fear adding additional allowances. I am no longer interested in a refund, just want to come as close to even as possible.

Sorry I'm still a bit confused. My wife and I have 2 preschool kids, I worked full time but my wife is a stay home mom (by choice). We decided to send our kids to preschool started last year (2006). Is the tuition tax deductible at all? If so how can I get the deduction for last year (I didn't claim it last year)? Thank you.

I live in a duplex and rent out the other half. I know if I was renting out, for example, a single family home I could deduct my insurance payments.

Is any portion of my insurance payment deductable on the duplex? It is a single payment paid by escrow.

I just want to go online and get a guesstimate of how much of a refund will be this year? I only worked a portion of the year this year, so I don't know if that will put me in a lower tax bracket and I will get more back or I will get less back because I paid in less?

I grossed $60,945 and I paid $10,428 in federal taxes. I am single, no deductions. I would just use a 1040 form. Thanks

I have a college student who comes in once a week for 3-4hours I give her a check for $40- once a week. I do not pay any social security or other taxes on her. She cleans my house I work outside of home but also work at home one day a week when she comes in to clean it.
I was wondering if this was a deduction on my taxes if I itemize them?

My ex husband and i have 2 children. they live with me 100% for the entire year. He has contributed 116 per week in child support since May.
He says to me the other day that he is claiming them on his taxes this year, I told him he is not.
Don't I have to sign a form 8332 release in order for him to claim them since I am the custodial parent?
What happens if he tries to claim them before I do?
