I am thinking of buying Turbotax software to help my with my 2006 taxes, but I heard it can be a ripoff because you have to pay both for the software AND to file the information electronically. So, say I buy the software and use it to figure out all my deductions: can I transfer that information to paper forms and just mail them in? I am not in any rush to get a refund.

This is for the 2006 US federal taxes. I was thinking of setting it up like a taxi that makes no income so I can write off the milage.

When figuring tax on a vehicle, should the dealer figure the tax before or after the trade-in? A well known dealer I went to said he had to figure tax on the selling price of the vehicle (minus my cash down), then deduct the trade in value of my car for the final loan amount. Is this right? He figured tax on $5400 ($6200 minus my cash down which was $1500), THEN subtracted $1500 for my trade in. Why not tax me after my trade in? Is this Illinois law to tax me BEFORE my trade in?

Hello, I recently filed my income tax (EZ form) and received my refund. I completely forgot to include about $100 in interest I received on my savings account last year. How do I go about and remedy this situation?

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

How do I account for Option Contract trades for Tax purposes?

I had a number of options trades (calls and puts) last year resulting in a small loss. My broker sent me a "2006 Supplemental Tax Info - Non-Reportable" form so none of this activity shows up on a 1099-B. TurboTax has a form 6781 that is called "Section1256 Contracts and Straddles" but there are no examples that I can find on how to fill it out.

Is form 6781 the correct form or should I use schedule D?
Are there any examples available?

Thanks in advance.

I joined a company in Oct 2006 and incurred business expenses (which were approved by the CEO) totalling $3500.00 in tax year 2006, of which ZERO was reimbursed to me. The company was also remiss in paying me my salary for a certain period (roughly $7000). In late Jan 2007 the company's assets were foreclosed, the company is no longer in business, and it is very likely I will never recoup any of these approved expenses or salary (Yes - I have filed a claim with the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement board and I have a hearing in April). Can I claim these amounts as a casualty loss for last year? If some or all does get recouped can I account for it on the 2007 return? If not casulaty loss is there another option to lessen my tax burden from this lost income?

Thanks!

I asked this question about 4 to 6 months ago. It was about a phone tax that everyone was paying for the last 100 years. I didn't know the name of tax but the telephone people couldn't even tell you what it was. People that replyed to my question didn't believe me or wanted a name of the tax. Well guess what, I was watching the news last night 2-25-07 and they mentioned it and i was right. I'm not bragging, I just want to let everyone know that when you do your taxes that there is a line that needs to be filled out. They said that everyone should recieve about $60.00. I don't remmember the amount but they said it would cost the government so many billions of dollars, so pass the word. This is a fact from Jack!!!
P.S. This was a tax i believe from the Spanish American War. Have a great day.

I have two questions I was hoping someone could/would help with?

1. After having filed my 2006 taxes (I've received and spent my refund), I just realized that I didn't file one of my W2s. Last year was really hectic for me, and I worked a number of jobs. Somehow or the other, I missed out on one. What do I do now..? Does anyone know? Do I 're-file'? Doesn't/wouldn't/shouldn't that affect the refund collected?

2. Also, as I didn't file my taxes at all in 2005 (this one wasn't negligence. I was out of the country), I requested a copy of my W2s from that year, and will be filing it tomorrow... Does anyone know how (or if) Question 1 affects this?

I hope I haven't been too confusing. If anyone can help, please do... I'm going insane with thoughts of being audited by the IRS.
