That is tricky. You are claiming her as a spouse. That is a dependent. It is a different dependent than a child. It's weird, but someone thought it was easier to figure out. She is a dependent spouse, but not a dependent. Just call her your spouse. She has to actually depend upon you. By that, I mean that only one of you can claim the other as a spouse.

No, your wife is not your dependent. If you were married on 12/31/06 your filing status is Married. You may file either jointly or separately. A joint return will usually result in lower taxes. When you file a joint return you get two personal exemptions, one for each of you. But you do NOT claim your wife as a dependent.

If your wife is new to the US, she must have a SSN or ITIN before you can file your tax return.

A spouse can never be claimed as a dependent. You can file a joint return, and would get an exemption for each of you, or you can file as married filing separately. A joint return usually results in lower taxes.

You can only file a joint return if she has either a social security number or an ITIN.

No, just file "Married filing jointly." Then you get an extra $3300 standard deduction.

Did you get married in 2007? If so you cannot claim her.
