My son's father had no right to claim my son as a tax credit. I have custody, and I have been providing for my son since birth. How could he get away with this?!! I'm stugguling by going to school, working, making little to no money as it is, I have to ride the bus now because my car broke down. How dare he do this to me!! And how did he get away with it so easily?!!!

I need something that will help me take care of all tax related stuff. I will need something that handles salary, state/federal taxes, student loan interest, series EE bond that i cashed in, mutual funds and interest including a part i cashed in, the opening of a Roth IRA (don't think that matters), payment of tuition off the top of my head. I have received my w-2, 1099div, student loan interest statements, and something else which i forget at this moment.

Is a basic tax software going to be useful enough for me?

I have a 1yr son and his dad and I dont live together, we go halfers on mostly everything regarding my sons expenses (child care, diapers) however my son lives with me and if we calculate the expenses i did covered 70% of them.
I claimed my son on my taxes, i got credit for him, now my babys dad says that we need to go halfers on that as well.
Should I?
He doesnt pay child support.
Thanks for helping!!!

Ok guys.First time poster here.Thought maybe you could help me out with figureing something out.

Last year I dont have the exact amounts.I made less money say about 100-150 less than I did this year for the year.Made more this year.

Last year I received all together about 700-750 in taxes back.I was happy.

Now this year I as I said made a little more money yet the person that did my taxes says I owe 3 dollars to state and im only getting 370 back from federal....what the heck is going on here? How exactley am I getting a difference of 300 + dollars from last year?

The store I work for received new owners thats about all that happend.I dont understand why exactley im getting so much less back,it just seems kind of fishy to me.I would appreciate any help on this.
Thanks :-)

I rcvd a 1099 from doing a newspaper route. I have heard various things about how to claim it. I was told i can lump it into my total income and just pay that way. I also heard that I have to pay out the fica (social security and whatnot) and then that way I can deduct things like mileage. I'm not sure of the right way to do this. Can anyone help me?

My husband just filed our taxes over the weekend and year after year (We've been married almost 4yrs now and it's both our first marriages) that we should be itemizing and we'd get more money on our returns that way. I don't know what itemizing is or how to do it...can someone help or is there a site I can go to for answers. We have two girls, 3 and 1yr old. We have a home and pay prop taxes every year that is separately paid from our two monthly mortg. payments on our home we also have a 2005 mini van we bought used in '05 and are still making payments on it and a 92 isuzu trooper I paid off when I was single. My husband works and earns most of our income and I work on call only for a bank so that I'm able to stay at home and take care of our little ones. From all that information, please tell me, how do we start itemizing (like do I save reciepts for certain things to claim next year when filing again?) Or please let me know if there is a site I can visit for this info

I am a single female living on my own since August of this past year. I thought that since I paid in almost 3500.00 in taxes I would get almost all of it back. But I am only getting back about a third of it. Can anyone help me understand why I wouldn't get more back than that?

Can anyone give me more info on how much forms cost.

I'm a 21 year old college student, with a part time job. I've received something in the mail from my work, another place I worked at during the summer, and my college sent me something in the mail about deductions and stuff too. I AM SO LOST! I have never done my taxes before because I always had someone to do them for me. I really don't want to pay and go somewhere like H & R Block.... but I have no idea what I'm even supposed to do with all this stuff! Any ideas? Tips? What would be the easiest way to do my taxes? And when do I need to have them done by?

please feel free to message me on yahoo

Essentially, the partnership acted as the loaner, where the buyer repaid the loan to the partnership, with part of the payment going towards principle and the other part to interest. So is that interest considered ordinary income, even though the partnership only had one other similar arrangement, or is this portfolio income? I should mention that the partnership had no other income source other than these two mortgage sales. I should also mention that the sale occurred ten years ago, and was not booked as an installment sale.

BTW, this makes a big difference on the individual partners' tax returns, so I'm hoping for a good answer.

I just filed my taxes and with all of my deductions from schooling and medical and my child - I am actually getting more back than I paid.

About $3500 was withheld last year, but I am getting over $3800...

Is that possible??? The last thing I want to do is to piss the IRS off.

I'm trying to figure out if my long term capital gain is taxed at 5% or 15%. Do I include the gain into my gross income? If I include the gain in my gross income I'd be in the 25% bracket and have to pay 15% on the gain, but if I don't include the gain in my gross income I'd be in15% bracket and pay 5% on the gain. It seems I should figure out what bracket I'm in without including the gain to figure out what I should pay on the gain. Otherwise I'd be paying captial gains tax and regular income tax on the gain.
