I live in the State of Virignia... according to the State I get upto a 2000.00/year deduction for contributions made to my daughter's 529 plan. I am using Turbo Tax, and for the life of me I can't find what IRS form I am supposed to fill out to enter my 2006 contributions to this account.

I heard that if you save all of your reciepts throughout the year, and the sales tax is $1500 or more, you can get a deduction on your tax return. Is this true, and are there any restrictions on what you purchase?

I will need to fill out a schedule C and I itemize because I have several deductions.
I have used turbotax in the past and liked it, but I noticed that Taxcut was much cheaper and wanted someone's opinion before I purchased this year's software.

The old mortage balance was 80k and we refinanced with cash back for 70k to buy some land and payoff some bills. Do you have to pay taxes on the cash even though we now have a higher mortage loan repayment amount?

I do my own taxes every year, but this year I have a question. I refinanced my mortgage in the spring. Had a significant amount of equity and decided to "cash out" some of my equity to help pay off some outstanding debts (car, student loan, credit card balance) and kept some to keep in saving (so it's accessible, if needed). I know the government tries to take a piece of everything, but this is MY money. It's not "wages" -- does that make a difference?

Here's the deal. I was paying $1200/monthly in alimony. Then, b/c my ex can't come up with the $500 in child support, the Court ordered me to reduce my alimony by $500, making it $700/monthly. So, as I see it, I should still claim 1200 as expense and declare the 500 as income. Or do I just claim the 700 as expense, since I have received no actual check from her in child support? (Actually, I would like to claim the 1200 as alimony, but my checks only show 700.). What do I do? If you are a tax consultant, I would be happy to compensate you and discuss this over the phone. But I am happy to hear from anyone!
