I asked several CPAs in the RENO,NV area and they all
say "sure I can do that" only to find out soon that they
bungle the return and don't know what "Mark to Market"
is all about. The few large corporate CPAs ask a fortune
to prepare a return.

I just found that that when you gift stock, the person receiving the stock inherits your cost basis. My parents have a substantial capital loss carryover from the .com boom and I wanted to obtain the advice of someone who understands tax laws fairly well to see if the following scenario would work.

1. I gift my dad $12,000 (or whatever the limit is for the gift tax exclusion) worth of stock. My cost basis on the stock is $6,000 so he will have a capital gain of $6,000.

2. My dad sells the stocks, but because of his capital loss carryover he does not have to pay any capital gains tax.

3. My dad gifts my wife $12,000 in cash.

Is there any issue with this? Or, a better question is do you think the IRS would have an issue with this?

There are also expenses for heating while I'm working, lighting, etc, that fall under electrical usage. Afterall these utilities aren't free and are required to run my in-home small business.

Example- it's not against the law to deposit $ into your family members accounts, a few hundred to Mom, more to your adult son & daughter, some in your wife's individual account- All at different banks under others SS#. Total for the week is $12,000 but spread out it's not even noticed as connected.

Do this for 3 years+ and no one transaction is illegal but if combined they would be structuring, correct?

At what point would this appear to be a crime? When does it cross over the line to conceal lots of cash?

The bankers do not KNOW what I know. Could they be in trouble? what about his CPA...he doesn't know about the excess cash either- he does tax returns w/ almost no info.

I read somewhere that you should save all the receipts that you paid with cash, make a list of tips, tolls, anything paid in cash to claim it at the end of the year to IRS. I have never done that before. Is that true?

I am 18 and work full-time. I make approx. $20,000 a year before taxes are taken out. I claimed 1 on my W4. I've been working at my place since July. Under what circumstances would I have to pay more taxes (out of my pocket) come tax return time?
