I only worked a couple months because I've gone back to grad school. However I have $35K in mortgage interest deductions. Does this make sense? I also have a child and am claiming that deduction.

In the beginning of every April, year after year, after year, mass media ie., television, radio, newspapers all talk about the tax filing deadlines and all the headaches associated
with them. Dont forget to sign your names, dont forget to sign your check, dont forget to put a stamp on the envelope, etc.

My question is: Of those people who use this forum to ask your tax questions, and after receiving expert answers from knowledgable people, will you ask the same question year after year, or will you remember what you did incorrectly and apply it to 2007 and
future years?

I'm 20 years old and I work full-time.. After taking a break from college I moved into my parents home last year, I lived there pretty much the entire year although they do not give me any money and I rarely even eat there. It's just where I sleep occasionally, bathe, and wash my clothes for the most part. My dad wants to claim me on their taxes and is making a big deal about it even though he doesn't really support me otherwise. My question is if I let my parents claim me instead of claiming myself what kind of difference would it make in my return and in their return? My parents have over a 6 figure income together whereas I don't bring in much over 20,000. Thanks in advance for the answers.

People used to have to pay their taxes directly. Nowadays (and for the last 50+years?) a huge part of the population has their taxes taken from them, by their employers, and the government gives SOME back making it feel like a reward. Dont you think this makes people apathetic about government.
Does anyone agree we should go back to paying directly and FEELING the real pain of taxation.

Wouldnt taxes go DOWN?

They are a private company, and not the United States bank.
United States actually BORROWS money from Federal Reserver (FED) and owes them $9 trillion in debt.

Their money is not backed in gold or silver bullion.
They print money as they please.

They have been blamed for causing the depression.
They have been blamed for our high taxes.
They have been blamed for purchasing political candidates.

Since their money has no value, it can cause the collapse of all financial institutions around the globe.

Countries on both sides of a war borrow money from the Federal Reserve.

Is there truth to these alegations?
Is there a better alternative currency?

We currently have a tax system that basically is tax rate by reproduction. Have more kids and pay no taxes. If a person has a fertility problem and needs to save the $40,000+ it costs to adopt they still have to pay far more in taxes then their peers who have no medical problems. I for one can't wait for this to be challenged as a constitutional issue. It is patently unfair to tax someone at a higher rate due to medical problems yet that is what is happening.

I just found out that I owe the IRS $700 this year due to an incorrect exemption number. Thing is, I don't make very much money at all, so paying $700 at once is nearly impossible for me.

My question is, is there any way for me to pay the IRS what I owe, but do it in monthly payments as opposed to all at once?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Income Tax, Sales Tax, Property Tax. We all pay taxes and wish they were lower but do you think that the current system is fair to all tax payers? Could taxes be lowered if the USA did not waste money?

What is the value of a used printer? Key word is used? Is it the value of what you would find on eBay or Amazon....or a deprecation of the original purchase cost...but the product changed hands.

This printer costed supposedly $310 when it was first purchased - 2004. (2004 is considered old!) I now can get it new one Amazon for $160 but I can buy it used on eBay for $36. So how much would a tax receipt be worth? $310 less 10% per year for business depreciation, $160 for a new one but it isn’t new, or $36 for the fair market value for a used one on eBay?

Anyone have any ideas?
