I bought tickets in late Dec 2006 for a business trip in early 2007. Are the tickets a deduction for 2006 when I paid for them, or in 2007 when the actual business travel took place.

I usually claim standard mileage, but I bought a new car 11/05 started using it for business 1/06 can I claim actual using vehicle depreciation on my taxes or just standard? My other car I have I never used for business before, but used it breifly in 06 for about 20% for work can I claim this also? What do I need to put for date of service? When I bought the car or when I started using it?
Thanks!!

I was married in April 06 so its my understanding that my wife and I would benefit most from filing our income taxes jointly. We both work full time jobs, but in addition to my full time job, I am also an independent contractor selling a little real estate here & there. (Only 2 sales in 2006 for a total of about $2800 in commission.) But being an independent contractor, I am allowed to write some things off that pertain to my business such as fees paid, marketing, cell phone, etc...

What do I claim my real estate income as & if it's not my primary job, am I still eligible for the write-offs?

Also, where can I find a list of general things that can be written off or deducted such as medical costs and whatnot? We want to make sure we get as much as we can back, but I'm concerned I could miss some things.

Any help is greatly appreciated, but anyone that actually walks me through it step by step will get best answer. I've never filed myself before so I'm a bit weary. Thanks!

I think it is called EITC, Anyway last year my tax preparer was saying I could get money back for my son, he is now 2 and a hlaf and my husband and I have seperated. I was unable to claim them in past years because my husband was not a citizen with a soc. #.
So my question now is, we are seperated but still legally married, can I claim that money when I do my taxes?

I was going to claim her son since i provide most of his support. If i claim him, will they make me pay back the welfare even if he isnt my child by blood?

I forgot to include some money I made when I did my taxes. They took out a lot of tax on what I made and I think I should get more money back. I believe the mistake would give me a bigger return if I fix it.
