My return was offset to a 5 year old student loan debt. Is there any way to get my return back? I had completely forgotten about this debt, and they have never offset my return before now. I am between jobs and have two kids. I really need that money right about now. Please help!

When you owe a Federal or State Debt Financial Management Services directs both State And Federal Tax agencies to hold any refund that you may be expecting. You would need to contact the Lender of your Student Loan and start making the payments on the Loan to beable to get the Offset removed
You can call FMS at 1-800--304-3107

Tax returns are not offset, but refunds are. The other post states call IRS, don't call IRS, IRS doesn't know if your refund will be offset. Only FMS knows, maybe FMS has not updated to the 2009 refund information yet. It may be too early to find out. usually if you are current in your payment then the refund would not be offset. good luck!

Here's a link to IRS offsets:

I don't know that you can get an offset reversed according to the wording of this article but contact the IRS anyway.

No.

It's gone. Forgetting about a debt doesn't make it go away.

If the debt still isn't paid off, they will take next year's also.
