No. The government should raise taxes equally for all of its citizens, rich, middle, and poor.
Here's something to ask yourself:
Why should the tax burden for social services rely heavily on the middle class? Why can't the poor get themselves off welfare? Why does the government REWARD the poor for having MORE children? Why are there FREE social services to support adult children?

No, the government should not tax the all ready burdened poor. The poor live hand to mouth. They are not (as a group) lazy, as some answering this question appear to feel. They have had fewer opportunities in life and it is easy to say that the government rewards people for having children, without having ever been poor yourself. A welfare check in some states is as little as $296 a month for a mother and two children. Yes, that mother may receive food stamps and medicaid also, but how is she going to pay her bills on this amount of money? Some people do make it on welfare but they are not laying back having an awesome time. People who put the poor down are doing the exact opposite of what Jesus wanted. Jesus wanted humility for the poor. If you have two pairs of shoes, he asked that you give one to your brother. Our national budget is full of perks for the upper classes, but the working poor must still slave away at starvation wages to do the dirty work for the rich. I could go on and on because helping the poor is a calling in my life, but I will leave it at this. Poor people don't choose to be poor, they do not make it their life's ambition to "live off the government" and they are people too. If more of us would show humility and kindness to others, our world would not be in the shape it is today with homeless sleeping on the streets and eating from garbage cans. Stop and think how lucky you are to be sitting there on your computer, sipping a soda in a warm, dry house.

Almost everyone should have to pay something. If you don't have any money you should have to pay in some other fashion. Service to the handicapped, assist our returning service men and women, help inner city kids, pick up litter, etc. The truly disabled are an exception to me. This means only that very small number of people who are severely disabled, not the millions on disability who have a bad hangnail. If we did this then we could treat those truly deserving soooooo much better - and to me that is what is important.
Too many people keep harping that the rich don't pay their share yet if only about 2% of the richest citizens left the US to live elsewhere our entire government would go bankrupt overnight.

Sure! Bushie Boy and his "base" at their $10,000 a plate fundraisers need MORE MONEY. Might as well get it from the poor as they have little voice in things.
I hope you note a small hint of sarcasm in my comments.
