Really, how long should you hang on to the follow?

Pay Stubs
Bank Statements
Credit Card Statements
E*Trade Statements
Receipts

I have ALL of my pay stubs dating back to 1998, I have probably 1.5 years back in bank statements, I think I have 1 yr + in credit card statements, all of my E*Trade statements, & tons & tons of receipts for tax purposes

Is all of this really necessary? Isn't there a limit of how many years/months you should hold onto this stuff?

My mother is unable to work full time and she's having financial problems. I want to help her out but the only way I can do that is if my brother and I both claim her as a dependent. If we combine the extra money we receive on our pay checks it should be able to help her out. However I need to know if that is even legal. Or can only one person claim her as a dependent?

Looking on the net from stuff in the early 1990's, it would appear that if you guarantee a loan for someone, you are treated as having made them an immediate gift - even if the loan never defaults - is that still the case please?

Do you know a website that I can go onto to calculate how much will be taken out of my weekly paychecks? Or do you know how that is calculated. I know it's different for everyone because of your marital status and dependents but surely there is a way to find out for my checks....Right??

Just recently, I found out that I qualified for advanced EIC. I filled out the form but my human resources person never processed it because she said that she didn't know what the form was. She just put the form in my file. That being said, the paperwork is just now being processed. I would like to know if I will receive the majority that I qualify for with my next paycheck or would I just get the monthly amount I would receive had I applied earlier. How much will I receive in advanced EIC with this being the end of the year?

well I'm 20 and last year i did my taxes for the first time. I guess i didn't do a good job and i forgot to print a double for me.So now my parents just got a letter in the mail. it says something about "we recieved a tax return from the dependent that you listed on your taxes who also claims to be dependent"(something like that) and theres a paper on there to fix it. so now my parents don't really know what to do and told me to fix it.

But i don't have a clue on how!

I don't know for sure if my taxes said for sure since i don't have a copy... and i didn't recieve a letter ..my parents did because both of ours cancels each others out!

well..um i hope i made any sense..i'm a bit freaked because this is all new to me. so i hope somebody can give me a hand!
