IRS Publication 502 states that orthopedic shoes are allowable medical deduction, but only for the cost 'above normal shoes.' It does not specify how much regular shoes should cost. Does anyone know if the IRS has a standard cost of regular shoes they use for this?

i really love my man of 11 years and we always wanted to get married but i always pushed things back because i am worried what it will do to me financially to take his name.

as i see, marriage joins u in more than 1 way and i dont agree. my credit is currently being repaired and he can care less what his credit is like and is not good at paying things on time. we have always maintained our own money and bills and that works fine for us but how can i marry this man out of love without getting stuck with all his back bills and wage garnishments and completely destroying my tax return??

is there any possible way? i'll love him til death but i will have to kill him if he messes up what i have been working for the past 3 years....

anyone who says its not about money doesnt have a clue what i have seen. unfortunately, its not only about love and thats my issue.

I live in New York and I just started a new job for 2 months. It's a salaried job, paying $7000 for the first month and $2000 for the second. I would like to know how much state and federal they would take out my first check of $7000. Also, how much social security? I only filed for myself and I have no withholding allowances being taken out of my check. If someone can help me out with this, it would be great. Thank You!!!

How many of you are aware that you can get tax write offs for energy efficient furnaces?
I am just wondering because it doesn't seem like many people know about this sort of thing.
My college instructor said that he installed a 95% energy efficient furnace last year that cost him $1800 up front. After he bought it he filled in a form and got a rebate for $500 which brings the price down to $1300. On top of this, he saves about $500 dollars a year on his heating bill.
After 3 years of owning this furnace it will have paid for itself!

I am in charge of the payroll which is done through a third party company. This company also files and reports the necessary withholding information. My boss will be giving bonuses shortly which I will cut a check inhouse for. Should I withdraw taxes from the amount since I normally do not report withholding information?

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if lumineers will be something I can debit to my flexible spending account. If there's someone that knows about IRS rules I would appreciate your input. I have already read publication 502 from the IRS but it doesn't mention anything about this procedure. Also, I tried contacting the IRS over the phone (given that I couldn't find an email to contact them) but they were not very helpful = didn't give an answer. Please help!

ok, I have a Mary KAy buisness. My husband is military and i stay at home(MK MY only income). He will be filing from our home state(whish has no state tax), and if I file I have to file for KY(which does have state tax). Q1:How would we do this on a joint return or do we file married finling seperate?
Also, I have not been collecting taxes on orders from people(military disc i offer).I also have not made any "profit" meaning everything i have invested, plus supplies and other costs is more than what I have brought in. With my at home biz I know I can deduct expenses like gas, utilities etc..operating costs. (but I don't have many receipts to prove it, just some shipping inventory sales slips, and a few purchase receipts.Q2: what would be financially better and legal for us to do? Do I file my buisness and get those deductions since I have not made enough OR do I not file it at all? I don't know!!

I know that if I purchased a new car in 2006 I could have deducted the sales tax paid on my income tax. What about if I purchased a car in 2007 or in 2008?
I am looking to purchase, but unsure if I should hurry and buy before the end of the year or can still deduct if I wait and purchase in 2008.

a) All people who earn income should be required to pay an income tax. This helps to fund much-needed services from which everyone benefits.

b) Individual earning below a certain amount should not be required to pay any incom tax. They can put the money to better use.

Because of foreclosures around our investment property, the appraisal put us upside-down by 20K. We'll have to make up the difference with a HELOC from our primary residence. Will we still be able to deduct the interest we'll be paying even though the HELOC is tied to our primary residence? If it is a big loss situation ($400 a month) what kind of deductions can we expect? Any tax credits?
