Why would it take so long to get an offer letter after you have gotten a verbal confirmation that you have the

My wife was told on the phone she had the job, but 3 days later still no official offer letter.

She is a professional and offer letters are the norm.

Some jobs dont give you a letter, when you get the verbal agreement you set a start date and thats it.

Verbal in this regards is no different than written. What do you think a written agreement guarantee's her that work?

She could call them Monday and ask that question. It's most likely that they're just slow, and she'll get it next week sometime.
