My husband and I just had a baby in april and I am wondering how to file taxes.

Do I file for the earned income credit?

the child tax credit?

both?

How does this work? I am not sure because I havent had to do it yet but we are suffering and I need to get my taxes done sooner.

Also when is the soonest I can file taxes? Do I have to wait to get our 3 w2 forms from work or can h&r block use our paystubs? Ive got every one of those since January 1st.

Thanks for the help. Please email all replies to me at blue2cry@hotmail.com

as I am not sure if I will be able to check back on here as easy as I check my email.

I found out that the lien was only for that day,Nov. 27, but the bank would not even let me pull out ten dollars for food, bills,so on.I had to borrow money from friends for this.Of course I was in real bad shape stresswise. The bank refused to call the IRS to find out what was right till they were made to.I sure think this is a case of mental anguish! What would anyone feel like if you knew you were paid but the bank wouldnt even let you touch ten dollars of it.Also I got a NSF notice but got a refund of it and the bank wrote a note Lien Error!! well if any lawyers out there I cant pay unless case is won but the bank definitely was in the wrong and proof is everywhere, even from the bank!!

My husband and I are separated and I am filing for divorce this month. I am wondering if I am going to be sought after for taxes that he owes in excess of 60k from his business that had to go into bankrupcy. We did file jointly for 2006. Can the IRS come after me if for instance, we are divorced and I try to buy a house on my own?

I recently took a course to become a medical assistant. After I paid the instructor, he gave me back a receipt with only my name, the amount I paid, and his signature, which is nonlegible. He said I could bring it in when I file for taxes and get the money back. Is this true with a receipt like this? I check the Better Business Bureau and his business is listed their with no complaints. Can I get money back for course receipts when I file for taxes?

My mother had a stroke and can't communicate with me. I am her conservator and guardian. I must sell a small rental house she owns to help pay the medical bills. I have no idea what she originally paid for the house since my deceased father built it a little at a time and there are no records to be found. How can I figure the capital gains tax on the property?

Hi,
I've opened a 529 account for my son recently, with the minimum funding of $25. Are there any tax implications if I fund this account before December 31? Will this reduce my federal tax if I do this?

I live in California, and I know that I don't reduce my state tax through my 529 contribution.

Thanks!

I am going to be making $37,000 a year. I am 22 years old, and I live with my boyfriend in our own apartment. I am currently paying rent, student loans, an additional credit loan, credit card payments, my car payment, my cell phone etc. so I need as much money as I can get in my checks. We get paid twice a month. I would like to claim 1 so that I can get more money in each check but I dont want to have to owe anything when I file my taxes. How can I figure out what is best for me to claim? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

If I itemize instead of standard deductions how much should I expect back in returns or which whould bring me most return back?

My boss has been paying me cash under the table, upon hire I was told shortly I would be added to payroll,41/2 months later, still no change.I was recently hurt at work that required me to go to the emergency room and I have no insurance.I can't even go to my boss with this bill because he refuses to even state that his cash employees even work for him.Meanwhile all the money he pockets from not paying taxes on his cash payed employees is pocketed for himself and lives quite well off of us.Remodeling house, trips, cars, etc. Because he has no "record"of me being paid cash I don't have a check stub to verify anything, can't get a loan, get workers comp, disability, nothing! I only took this job in the first place because I really needed the money and thought that I would be put on payroll already, what should/could I do now?

All of which I have receipts and documentation for.

My income this year was $29K.

I also have some back taxes that I owe the IRS.

Just out of curiosity since my taxable income is almost nothing now -- what are the chances of an audit even before they mail me my tax refund check?

Is that even a possibility? In other words, I file my income tax return -- then the IRS asks for my receipts and proof of all my deductions?

Please Help!
