Sorry, don't understand your question. Please restate your question. And please don't type in ALL CAPS. It's the equivalent of yelling at someone.

If you were to qualify for a tax return, you would have to be working and would not be getting the free housing anyway. If you are working, you may qualify for the Earned Income Credit which can be a rather large amount of money (up to $4700 or so this year). This large amount should be well more than any increase in rent that it may cause, so it is better to file a return.

If you are not working, do not file a return. There are people out there who are running fraudulant scams to get free money from the government from people like you and then disappear with their cut of the money. When the IRS figures it out, they come after you for all the money, plus interest, penalties, and even jail time if you knew what was going on. Do not sell your kids social security numbers either, it can ruin their credit before they ever get old enough to need it because of identity theft.
I'd need to know your exact situation before being able to give you an accurate answer.

When I lived in an apartment, I simply paid the rent. I did not conduct business in the apartment.

Some people get public assistance to live in an apartment (section 8). If so, the amount of assistance may depend on your total income and you may be asked to show your tax return each year.
