If I purchase a new computer or laptop, can I claim the full amount back from my VAT. I was told that if I buy a pc for £400 then £400 will be deducted from my VAT bill as it's classed as consulmables. Is this true or would I just claim back the VAT i spent on the item?

Thanks

Well, I have found that my non-running car is not worth fixing. I would like to donate it but how does that work? My father has to pay taxes and has been pressing me to sign the car over to him so he can get the deduction. I do not have to pay taxes at the end of the year so would it even benefit me if I donate it?

We need to stop the population growth and this would offer incentive to not have a bunch of kids that one can't provide for. It would also help raise tax dollars. China only allows one child. We should start limiting to just two.

I'd like to know if it's possible for a UK taxpayer to deduct from tax donations that he did to a foreigner charitable organization (no profit) , for example from Italy. The organization is regularly registered.
If it's possible, which kind of document will this person need? Is a simple receipt enough?

Thanks for your help!!! :o)

In the upcoming tax season I will be newly married and unfortunately my husband will be incarcerated. Can I qualify for the EIC credit?

I'm thinking of going the Head of Household route since we will have only been married a month at the end of the tax year...Does anyone agree???

I will NOT have lived with him at all this year, when I marry him he will be incarcerated! So I will not have lived with him at all during this year. NOW can I file Head of household????

Hi,
I am looking at renting out my property for a year or two whilst things settle and renting a new property whilst living away.

I understand that you pay tax (at 40% as already have a job) on any amount that is deemed profit once you have allowed for mortgage, agents, upkeep etc

What I am not sure of is that we are taking a mortgage "holiday" atm from our lenders. As such we are not making any mortgage payments although the interest still builds up. Do we still allow for the interests part of the mortgage payments? Would it be more prudent to start paying the interest amount of the mortgage payment to our lendder again to avoid getting a hefty tax bill at the end of the year?

How do I calculate the interest portion of our monthly payments? I do know that about 70% of our yearly payments are interest and the rest actually pays thte mortgage - based on last mortgage statement.

Hope this makes at least SOME sense :O)

Thanks

I've always wondered about getting back more on my taxes and writing stuff off. I don't have a business or anything like that, but I recently baught a home and stuff to go in int, like a refrigerator and carpet and stuff....only to find out this can't be written off on your taxes. Is this true? I know the value of my home will go up these were somethings I had to do, but...is this true, they can't be written off.
