My sister and I purchased a flat on 21 April 2005 and sold it earlier this year on 09 February 2007.

During this time she was living in the property with her husband and two children.

I was also living in the property but not for the complete period of time.

When I moved out I moved into a sharehouse where I was paying rent to a landlord.

We split the mortgage payment 50/50 and we never made a rental income from the property.

Due to my not living on the property for the full period of time I am concerned that I will have to pay CGT.

Please can someone enlighten me as to my situation and point me in the right direction?

He makes more money than i do will it benefit him to claim the house i purchased in our both names. this is my 1st home so i know nothing about paying taxes on a home? I need to obtain a copy of my federal tax return quickly. I see that there are several services online that claim that they can retrieve and e-mail the retun to you within 24 hours. Has anybody ever used one of these services? Which one? Did it work?

Is it taxed as a 1099 dividend only or are there more taxes. I am figuring 30% for taxes, am I wrong? I live in Washington if that changes tax details at all.

We file a return.
We pay tax fees in 4 sets in a year for the tax we have filed.
We get tax return.
This return is always less than the sum of tax fees we pay in the year.

I dont understand why should we file a tax when we get lesser return.

Can someone explain me the need of each step as you would do to a common man?
