I am a store manager of a womens boutique. Dress code is somewhat strict. You must represent what is "in" the store today. When the seasons change, so does my wardrobe!

I am using taxcut software to do my taxes. 2006 was my first full year of being married. When I type in my W2 information it shows me getting around $1500 refunded. When I put her information in seperately it shows around $1000 refund.

When I have both our information put in it show the refund being $150.

My check has me claiming 1 dependent and married. She has hers set up as 1 dependent.

I don't understand how this could be so low, when seperately we would get so much money back. Does this make sense to anyone? Input would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

We paid for my wifes tuition on Dec. 5th 2006 for classes starting in Jan of 07.

From what I am reading, as long as those classes or other expenses that qualify are for the acedemic period in the following year starting within the first three months of the following year. They can be claimed on 06 taxes. Am I reading this right?

I'm 14 and have been working since October of '06. My company gave me a W2, whatever that is, and told me it's for taxes. I've had people tell me I have to pay them and I've had others I don't. Do I or not?

I just recieved a tax statement for my grants, scholarships. I was awarded a Pell Grant and school scholarship and used as much as I needed to for school. Do I have to pay income tax on the entire grant money, the difference that wasn't used, or none at all?
THANKS!!!
My tax info (if it makes a difference):
$2775.00= $2,025 for pell grant, $750 for school scholarship
$1810.46= spent for tution and related expenses
Difference= 964.54
My total reported income for this year was $1,065.44. I am a dependent to a low income single mother. I only worked a couple weeks until I started college.

Thank you so much for your time.

Focus on who makes how much by income strata or class, what taxes are paid and do top wage-earners (households) pay their fair share of taxes?

I paid over $15,000 in a legal settlement last year. Since that money will be subject to federal tax by the recipient, it seems reasonable that I would not be required to pay tax on these monies. I am not sure if I can claim this is a personal expense and, if so, how I would go about it.
