My husband and I made over $100,000 last year, have two children. I am self employed bringing in 75% of the income and he gets the taxes taken out. We have quite a few of deductions, but I am wondering an estimate of how much we will have to pay. Does anyone have a similar circumstance. Last year we got back a few thousand, and this year we are in uncharted waters. Thanks!

So I have been working for this person who had some really shady business practices for a couple of months. When I started seeing illegal things I quit. I contacted the IRS about a bunch of things and also people getting paid under the table. I told my sister I did this who got really upset. She had worked for this man as well but quit before me for another job, I guess she had taken her wages under the table ugg. Now what? If she hasn't filed for this year yet if she claims those wages will she be okay?

It asked me if I claimed the Hope Education Credit in 2005. I didn't claim it in 2005, so I said no. The thing is I claimed it in 2003 and 2004. I am not done with my post secondary education. Technically I am a sophmore (college years). I am in the process of amending the return. Is this credit applicable for college years or tax years? Can I spend the refund amount now. Or do I need to wait for the ammendment to take place before spending any of the refund.

last year a friend held a fundraiser for me to help pay my medical bills. a non-profit lutheran charity matched funds up to a certain amount. in order to receive their donation, i had to give them all the money i received the day of the fundraiser, then they added their match funds and gave me a check for the full amount (the amount raised plus their matching funds). do i have to claim this as income? if so, where (on what form or what part of the 1040 would i find this?)? i received no forms in the mail and just finished filing online and saw no place to add this amount (i didn't file yet, just finished the 'paperwork'). if you REALLY know the answer please share. i'd REALLY appreciate it. thanks!

I own property with six others. No one can pay the property taxes (roughly $6000). If I paid them, do I get some kind of controlling interest. How will it be viewed by a judge or the IRS, or other lawyer involved.

I understand that every employee has to pay 6.2% for social security and 1.45% for Medicare and the employer also has to pay the same percentage.

My question is : Self employed people pay social security only for the first $94,200 that they have earned in that tax year.
Is there some such limit for employees also or do they (and the employer for his share) have to pay soc. sec. for the entire amount?

I was 21 when I filed my 2005 taxes last year. I check the box that read "check here if someone else can claim you as a dependent". But my parents did not claim me as a dependent and I know I am entitled to personal allowances that increase my tax refund that I did not take advantage of. I know I am supposed to fill out for 1040x to amend my last year's tax but do not how to fill it out exactly to correct my mistake. I want to amend my 2005 tax to get money back for my mistake. Thank you all in advance

I am a full time college student. I got out of the Navy on an honorable discharge one month before starting college. I get unemployment benefits and have had quite a bit of help from tuition assistance and the pell grant for college. Somebody told me that I can claim gas money, food money and rent when I do taxes. Is this true? If not, what can I claim? And do I get a tax break for being a full time college student?
