My mother and I started a plus size womens clothing store in a small to medium sized town in Kansas. Its on Main st where lots of other retail businesses are. And tho we cater the clothes to plus size women we carry name brand purses, nice jewelry and scarfs and hats and gloves. And we carry sandals in the summer! lots of things other than plus size clothes. we thought it was a great idea because the only place in our town where you can buy plus size is walmart! Our prices are moderate, we dont even mark things up to there retail value! The first year was ok(it kept the bills paid) the second not so hot! and now we are dreading starting the third year! Please help this is my mothers life long dream! i dont want it to fail! We spend around 25% of our monthly income on adverising..we advertise with three newspapers...two radio stations and send out newsletters! and its still not bringing in the customers! Our target age group is 18-60 we carry every thing for every women thats why my mother and i started the business together...im 20 and shes 42 so we get a wide range of style difference from out age! And i dont think our clothes are frumpy i think we sell very nice things and we are small town so we wouldnt sell a thing that we wouldnt wear ourselves or that is damaged! Our customers that do come in are always saying what a great store we have and we have so many cute things but yet they dont buy!

I have about 17 books that I want to get rid of. 2 are college textbooks (about 600 pages each), 4 are hard cover books (around 300 pages) and 11 are paperback books (about 250-300 pages). I have no clue how much I should charge for shipping. Esspecially for ebay users, how do you estimate a shipping price without taking the books to the post office first? I don't want to charge too much or too little. Thanks.

Are these good businesses to start? What should I be aware of?

I will be doing a sales consulting project for a small HVAC company in the next few weeks but am having trouble figuring out what to chage him.

My job as a consultent with him will be to put together a plan to raise income from service contracts to 120k annualy and train him andhis reps in how to sell these service contracts. He wants me to design NOT implement this plan for him and we have agreed to do this on a project basis not hourly. I will be at his disposal for questions and concerns and advise after he implements the plan as well as retraining him and his reps when needed untill he acheives his goal or for 6 months, which ever comes first. The other condition is that he is entitled to a max of 6 hours per week of my time regarless of the method of time spent, ie. phone, in person, or research and analysis with report.

My question again is what would the correct % to charge him be for gaining him 120k annually with the unlimited potential for future orders be?

So I know PayPal has Payments Pro and Google has an interface that works like a payment gateway. All they require to set up is a shopping cart, and I know there are tons, like OSCommerce, Monster, X-Cart, etc.

But my situation is that I don't sell products, so I don't need a big traditional cart, with 'add to cart' and lots of products.

Instead, I just need to (a) display a page on my site to the client and take CC payment right there and (b) allow them to deposit funds in advance for our services, where they can select the amt to deposit.

I know this could be done with a customized API or something, but it's expensive / complicated to do this. I'd like to use a free shopping cart to do it, but I don't know which ones to use. Does anyone know the easiest way to take payments, syncing the html up with Paypal or Checkout?

Is there a shopping cart that has this sort of manual CC payment setup option? I've been researching forever and would LOVE any advice you can give.

When I grow up I wanna open a bakery, do you think that this is a good idea?

How do I achieve this goal?

All, my friends think that this is a horrible thing to do, that I won't earn a lot of money and that I'll end up broke. My parents says that I should be more serious, and stop day dreaming about opening a bakery and that I should be a doctor or something like that.

Is this a good idea?
