Your individual homework assignment in this course is to develop, write, and present a Marketing Plan. You will choose a product or service and develop your plan according tothe Marketing Plan Outline contained in a pull out section located between pages 58 and 59 entitled "Building a Marketing Plan". There is also a Sample Marketing Plan located in your text starting on page 531, that will serve as an example of how the Marketing Plan Outline can be completed to develop a real Marketing Plan

Each section of the plan will be an assignment that is due for each unit.

Your assignment for Unit 2 is to write the Situational Analysis section of your Marketing Plan. There are 3 parts to this section - The Internal Environment, The External Environment and the Swot Analysis.

I am 37 and my husband is 38. We are both fairly intelligent, and hard working. We both currently have good jobs and are doing pretty well. We have been doing alot of thinking that we should start a business. We sort of feel stuck in a rut at our jobs, and hate the fact that we have to account for every move to a boss. He is extremely talented in the technology field. Computers, digital, and audio equipment, any kind of gadgets. I on the other hand Love gardening, organizing things, and anything to do with the outdoors. We both LOVE coffee, good music, and I would say kind of eccentric things. We both have experience with a variety of things from waiting tables to working in a microbiology lab. We have alot of talents but we don't have any experience in owning a business. What should we be focusing on as far as getting things started. Please anyone with any knowledge of being your own boss and being successful at it, I would appreciate any advice you could give.

I'm starting a business (a record label), and I want to use "Transcendental Records" as the name for it; I've used the Google method but I don't know if those are actually legit labels or business names. I've seen the words come up one or two times but no official web site or anything; I mean, I'm actually filing for a business license as well as DBA license in Virginia and I don't want to get sued. How does this work? And if somebody has the same name in another state can they sue me? I find it hard to believe that no two businesses have the same name. Please help!

What are the necessary steps to take? Do I need a Tax ID number, and if so, where do I go to get one? Also, how can I copyright my logo/designs, and where do I go to do this? What would these necessities cost? Any additional inforamation is appreciated.

Granted it only takes 3 minutes for me to walk down a hall, use the restroom and return, but i can't control something that's preprogrammed into every human being. Is this legal?

yes or no? and if you answer, please provide a link or something stating proof.

To make this even more puzzling. They make salaried employees clock out for bathroom breaks as well. Totally bizarre to me. Thanks in advance for any good help!

I'm in the process of getting 3 patents and want to sell them to a technology company when they're done, but I also want to make money fast. I've sent emails and letters to about 5 or 6 companies and the only one that responded and seemed really interested and able to work with me on it was Creative Labs (the website's us.creative.com if you need to see a product.) The thing is they're saying their R and D is very busy at the moment, and will contact later if they are interested. Should I basically tell them one of my ideas and say they can only use it if they have my permission and if I work with them on it? Or should I just keep waiting and sending emails to them until they reply again? This idea could really help them out, but I'm naturally greedy ( :( ), so I need a way to get it to them without them stealing the idea. Are they legally allowed to use it without my permission before I patent it? and if anyone's ever had experience with this, please contact me or just answer. thnx.

If not how do you handle clients who haven't any cash? I could either wait until the next week or invoice in which case I'd probably receive a cheque by post. I don't mind accepting cheques for a few hundred pounds, but for trivial amounts it's a pain in the neck. I just wonder how other small businesses handle this and I'm not interested in any other replies.

I've been thinking about making a website to sell various bath, body and beauty products. What do you think about the domain name BeautySpree.com? I seem to get mixed reactions.
