I saved for 17 years living way below my means and just recently bought a brand new home and all the furnishes and have a huge stock portfolio through investing all these years. Why don't most people have discipline? I sure am glad I do!

Is there a way to be notified if a credit account is opened in your name?

I would imagine there would be some service where you can get an email notification if someone opens an bank, credit card, or mortgage in your name. Kind of like the way you can set you bank account options so you are notified if a withdrawl over a certain amount is made?

Or, is there a way to put a block on any accounts being opened in your name? I would imagine this would work through your social security number.

Anyone know if this is possible?

PS. I have found a website where you can "opt out" of being solicited for credit cards by mail for 5 years, so this protects you a little (since people won't have applications with your information preprinted to steal), but I'm still looking for instant, automatic notification when any kind of account is opened in your name.

Every time myself and my friend go to the bank, people start screaming when we get our guns out and ask for all of the money - obviously this attracts unwanted attention from the police which is the last thing we want. Has anybody got any tips?

I have a checking account and savings account, and have really been thinking about closing the checking. The overdraft fees can really kill ya! I have all of my big bills drafted from the savings anyway. I would just have to pay cash for food, gas, and daycare.

On average, how many hours do you think you talk to your spouse about money? When you talk about money, are you arguing, planning for the future, etc.?

I purchased a house for $134k on November 24 2004. I have refinanced and taken out equity loans on the house totalling $207k. I am selling my house for what I owe ($207K). Since it is under 2 years do I have to pay Capital Gains Tax? If so, will I still have to pay it if I wait until November 24th of this year to close? I have already purchased a new house and have been living in it for 6 months.

We are considering refinancing, because we must. Should we do it now at 6%, or should we wait until the beginning of the year? Trends show a drop is more common in January and it will be after the elections which can also contribute to rate changes. I just hate to lock in now, and have it go lower in two months...what do you think?
