I wrote a check to help pay for something my family bought for my grandfather. I've been told by my cousin that the owner of the business told her the check bounced and stated he needed to be paid. This was about 5 years ago. I never received anything from this person stating my check bounced. I've never received anything from a collection agency either. Since it was from so long ago, I no longer have that bank account (small bank in a specific town). I have no way of checking to see if I did bounce the check. It just seems like he would have sent me something. I also don't like that he has discussed this matter with someone other than me. My main question is, legally, is he allowed to do that? It seems to me with all the privacy acts, there would be something covering an issue similar to this. I wouldn't expect for a credit card company to call me and discuss my father's account with me.

There is a "rule" that suggests withdrawing 4% of one's savings the first year of retirement, and then "adjusting for inflation" in subsequent years. This is supposed to ensure you will never spend all your money before you die.

I do not understand what the inflation adjustment means. If inflation the second year of retirement is 3%, how does one adjust the amount taken out of savings to maintain the 4% rule?

apparently it is an "account" through Republic Bank and trust company specifically for people that have negatives through chexsystem and can't get a normal bank account. You get an atm card and can do online banking and have your checks direct deposited. Just looking for feedback.

My gut answer to this is no. I tend to think that a refi on my home mortgage for 30 years to consolidate a 4 -5 year auto loan only extends my payments and in another 5 years or so I will have to get another auto. Would a 2nd mtg or line of credit for the auto loan be wiser?

I swear the freaking fire whistle goes off in my town like twice a day on average and it sounds like a freaking huge wounded duck. with all the technology out there these days shouldn't they be able to use freaking pagers or cell phones when there is a fire. Thank god I live 7 blocks from the horn instead of one block. I hope the whistle doesn't go off someday when I'm trying to sell this house.

I'm a 35yo single male, I own my own home and I have about $12000 in a money market paying 4.65 apy. Also i have two CD's each for $2000 5.35% apy for nine months. My mortage is 6.74% apr ( I owe $63k, purchased house at $86k two years ago). I also have about $16k in a retirement mutual fund which I have calculated has paid a disappointing 5 % over the last 7 yrs. My question is this. These investments (cd's and money markets) are super safe because of FDIC. And I like a sure thing even though I've heard often that when your younger u should have more risk in your portfolio than when u r older. Are there investments that would pay slighty more and be slightly more risky but not too risky. Perhaps municipal bonds? I also like the liquidity of CD's and money market accounts so I wouldn't want to give up all that much liquidity.

I need to pay off a medical bill and my credit card and then have money to get back on track. Are personal lines of credit good for that? I'm only looking to get between 2 and 3 grand. I do not know anything about this so any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks.
