I swear the freaking fire whistle goes off in my town like twice a day on average and it sounds like a freaking huge wounded duck. with all the technology out there these days shouldn't they be able to use freaking pagers or cell phones when there is a fire. Thank god I live 7 blocks from the horn instead of one block. I hope the whistle doesn't go off someday when I'm trying to sell this house.

Do you really know the real reason the whistle is going off? In some small industrial towns a whistle is still blown at lunch and quiting time. Town whistles are also used as warning devices for weather.
