Personal Finance - June 2006

This is a fairly common problem but since my husband lost his jobs over a year ago and although he is looking, he has not found anything steady - there are not a lot of openings for electrical maintenance in Houston for 55year old. The bills are becoming overwelming. My credit rating is being distroyed - we are paying but late. Can anyone suggest from personal experience a way for us to keep our house under these circumstances.

he has allowed me to write checks on his personal account and gave me a check book, I even paid his bills for him! he let several account go in to deliquency, I paid them and now he is trying to put me in jail!

Without naming names, as one has to be politically correct these days, this is a true story of how Banks can be a mere rip-off than a help. I came to the UK & went straight into study. As a single parent and on very low income, it proved very hard saving for pay bills etc.for or survival. I got a Current account with one of the reputable Banks here & a Child's one for my daughter. As a student, I should've automatically got a student account but the Bank didn't advise me on that - prejudice no. 1. As a novice in the Banking systems here, I asked no questions & so delved into something that has hunted me since. Now, I had direct debits that came off my accounts every now & again. There was one point when consecutively, 10 DDs were declined from the same account & for which the Bank charged me £35 each. This amounted to £350. I didn't have the funds to pay it off so it accumulated & I was taken to the Bailiffs who added their fees. I paid over £1000 & was blacklisted & doomed for!

I want to begin my life I just finished university a few years back and I am working but for some reason I can not get a job that pays well.. I need some money to start me up, I know with some capital I will be on my way to be rich! I'm applying for a Loan. A federal Stafford Loan. Im concerned that I might not get it because the deadline passed since I had to reapply for a Pin number needed to apply which took 7 days to arrive at my house, 2 days past the deadline. Am I screwed? Why is it recommended that I use this kind of Loan. Does it matter?
