Whenever I go into a store, I almost always buy something even if I don't really need it. Mostly clothes. I have money in my bank account now, but I'm going to have to start paying grad school tuition and start renting an apartment, etc. I'm afraid it might become a huge problem. How do I get over this????

I have a great income as an engineer. However, with today's economy and still very high housing prices, I find it almost impossible to buy a house or save fast enough for a downpayment. I have saved about 25K already, but I will need 50K more for downpayment and other fees.

I have read several finance books, but most of them do not cover coping with todays economy and tailored to 24 year olds.

What are your savings and frugal living tips?

Which institution has the highest yield interest rates for savings/money market accounts and also has a nice online interface? I am considering capital one but interested in others if they are better.

The check came with a letter from British Random Lotto. It asks that I send the check (from Quest Diagnostics) to a North American Agent. At that time it reads that I will receive the other 85,000 in winnings. I don't want an agent ... I know this is a scam but this check is real.. And I want to cash it. It is for $2996.80
It does say that out of the 85,000 that $5,301 will be deducted for sonsor's commission. Supposed winning lottery #'s are 21-27-8-15-34. Has anyone else seen this scam . If the check is valod can I cash it. I have heard that if you receive money in the mail it is yours to keep.

more details. it is not the political problems that interest me. it is the work ethic, today people are not willing to work for money, they want easy ways out and money for doing nothing. people are in grossly in debit, when you know the people in the greatest generation (my grandparents) would not purchase anything if they did not have the money. they would save money and never would they have had credit cards. thats it credit cards, tv, computers, fast food. get rid of those and you would all have money in the bank rather than giving the bank your paychecks. and if the government would follow that example it would be rich as well.

I am from the state of Iowa and I heard about this website called The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt, it has all the people from Iowa with unclaimed money. I found out that I had almost $300 in uncollected funds. Has anyone else found any programs in your state such as this, it is run through the state treasurers office. Just thought I would let you all know that these programs are out there, so start searching your name, you never know what you could find. So my question is: Have you ever discovered you had money somewhere you didn't know about, what did you do with that money?!?!?!

I would lock in at current rate and something big is happening on July 1st. I think it's more than just a normal rate increase. My impression is that there's supposed to be a significant jump. Wouldn't I be a fool not to consolidate and lock in at current moderately high rate?

Is it a good idea to take out a loan for the purpose of having a 5% deposit to put down on buying a house?? I have a mortgage agreed up to 95% and am desperately thinking of ways to get round the fact I have no deposit? I wondered if a loan for this purpose was a bad idea? I was thinking of paying it off in 2 years after doing up the house and selling it on. What do we think kids???

I need money to buy a ticket to South Korea. I have a teaching job waiting for me, but can't afford the trip to South Korea. My 1st obstacle is obtaining Airfare, the 2nd obstacle is having enough savings to cover travel expenses and 3rd Obstacle is that I want to bring my cat. I have tried to sell a painting on Ebay with no results, I have tried finding a second job and I have no luck. The situation seems bleak and desperate! I need ideas on how to raise money quickly!
