I am a 45 yrs old, with a husband a 2 children ages 19 and 17. I never received any training formal or informal on finances. I came to this Country and did not know how pensions and retirement plans worked, I did not know about planing for the future(kid's college/retirement), until about 12-15 yrs ago.Once I realized that these are aspects of life that we need to take care off, I started to read and look for answers. I have been contributing to a retirement plan at work. For years I have done things, such as not buying new cars to avoid being in debt, but have found myself paying a lot of money to maintain used cars.
I feel that at my age I still do not have a good grip on my finances. We have never tried to "keep up" with the neighbors,we live from pay check to pay check, do not go after luxuries but do not have basic things such as a decent living room set. Our house needs maintainance but we do not have the money to do it and do not want to get debt we would not be able to pay.HELP!

I'm in debt for about $25000 and that's not even including my car payments, insurance or rent. I'm through using credit cards but **** just keeps happening. At this point, I don't care too much about my credit since I can't afford anything else, I won't need anything else.

I accidently overdrew my checking account last week by $7.00. I received a statement from the bank this week that I'm now
-$128.88 from fees.
Is there anything I can do BESIDES paying them their ridiculous fees? I mean, from $7.00 to $128.00 is unbelievable! Or am I obligated to pay them the entire amount?
Can I just let the account go & forget about it? What would happen?
Thanx.

My current car is a 93 Camry SE v6 (manual) with 210K miles. lol she's still kicking. I'm worries she might give out any day. I only drive about 15-20 miles a day, so she doesnt get too much wear and tear. I want to get a camry 07, but I have student loans, and I dont want to get more loans = (

I make about 70K a year. Any ideas?

My neice went to the local check cashing store and they said it was a check from Nigeria but it looks so real like an original document. Does anyone know of fake sweepstake checks floating around?

If anyone here has read Matthew Lesko's books, can you tell me how I can get free money to pay my utilities? I do work, and I just applied for a 2nd job, but it would really help if I can get some kind of money soon. And please, no crap about prostituting myself or anything gross like that, I'm asking a serious question about ML's books. Anyone?

(It's a pity that one has to ask for a decent, clean answer here in Y! Answers.)

My tax advisor says employers don't send 1099s to IRS. Then how does IRS know if you have 1099 income to claim. Can you
just neglect to claim that income. Don't they have to match your tax form with something?

I've gotten a lot better at managing my money, but sometimes I just make the dumbest purchases! Today I bought a hampster because it was only $2. I got rid of it about an hour after I got home. I had also spent like $20 at walmart buying stuff for it. My sister is going to take it all, lucky me, and pay me for it! But what if I didn't have someone who was willing to pay for it? How can I stop myself from making dumb choices when spending and buying things I don't need? I love to shop.

I received a letter from "Nationwide Asset Recovery Services" stating that they specialize in locating missing heirs and money. They stated that their research has disclosed unclaimed funds are being held in trust for an heir to the estate of my uncle, and they if they were to uncover the funds, I could collect 2/3 and they would keep 1/3. I have the feeling that if I knew how, I could access 100% of the money? Yet, I have no idea where these funds may be.
