Should I pay the entire year's rent at once, or put the money in a ladder CD, or money market account so it can grow a little first?

I graduated college in 2004 and consolidated that same summer. The rates they offer now are no where near as good as the rates I've already got from when I consolidated back then. Don't all the lending companies share information? The phone calls and the letters in the mail are driving me crazy!

We live pretty comfortably, have a paid off vehicle, one child in high school, one 4yo. We have no savings, very little in college funds, and always stay broke. We feel like we can't even manage a checkbook, let alone put away some savings. Should we hire a CPA or personal bookkeeper to get things straightened out. Would that be a frivolous expenditure?

I have accumulated $40,000 in debt, mostly credit cards and I also owe the IRS $11,000 in back taxes. My debt is a result of losing my 20 year job and being out of work for 2 years. I moved 1200 miles to find another job, and eventually took another job that pays $10,000 less than my previous job. I can barely afford to make ends meet, and I am paying the IRS $163 a month per my installment agreement, but I am even having a hard time paying that. I can barely afford the minimum payments on my credit cards, and I am not behind or late on any payments as of yet, but the inevitable will happen. I already work 60 hours a week and with my schedule it's difficult to find a part time job to work around my hours. I don't want to file bankruptcy. Since the IRS has a lien filed against me, my credit score has dropped from 750 now down to 650. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?

I agree money might not buy hapiness but it buys the necessities in life. If homeless people had money, they would have a home. If I had money, I could live someplace safer. Without money you can't get good medical care (without you are an unmarried mother with a dozen kids or a well deserving senior or a veteren who has served their country) . If you are a middle age woman with a low payiing job you can't get good healthcare.

I haven't been to a doctor since my daughter was born 14 years ago. If I had money, I might get a checkup or take care of a medical problem I have. Without money, people don't eat right.

I can't get a date with a guy who makes good money becasue I don't make good money and I thought money wasn't supposed to be important?

I think money is important and unlike most poor people, I don't hate the rich, I envy them. Love and caring are important, but try paying the rent with them.

I AM BEING EVICTED FROM MY HOME FOR REASONS OTHER THAN A DEAFULT IN PAYMENT. WE HAVE BEEN RENTING FROM A FRIEND, THE FRIENDSHIP HAS GONE SOUR AND NOW HE IS TRYING TO EVICT MY FAMILY. WE HAVE BEEN TO COURT ONCE AND IT WAS DISMISSED WITH PREJUDICE. I HAD PROOF OF PAYMENT FROM MY BANK. HE HAS SINCE TORN UP MY LAST RENT CHECK AND RETURNED IT TO ME, I GUESS SO THAT HE CAN NOW FILE FOR EVICTION AGAIN. I HAVE A 4 YR OLD AND A 6 YR OLD, A DOG, AND 3 CATS. I DO NOT HAVE 1ST, LAST, AND SECURITY AND MONEY FOR A U-HAUL. I AM IN NORTH CAROLINA AND ALL THEY HAVE TO OFFER IS A HOMELESS SHELTER....I CANNOT BRING MYSELF TO TAKE MY CHILDREN THERE. AND THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT MY PETS.......
