If anyone here has read Matthew Lesko's books, can you tell me how I can get free money to pay my utilities? I do work, and I just applied for a 2nd job, but it would really help if I can get some kind of money soon. And please, no crap about prostituting myself or anything gross like that, I'm asking a serious question about ML's books. Anyone?

(It's a pity that one has to ask for a decent, clean answer here in Y! Answers.)

Thanks for the link, unfortunately it's dead. I'm not low income, but I've incurred a huge long distance bill very recently. Does anyone know how someone who's not low income can get some help fast?

I think ddc's comments are outstanding, and should prove to be some immediate relief to "tide you over". I worked for a hotline about 7 years ago and would thumb through Matthew Lesko's books (sorry, long gone) but I don't remember anything concrete, and many times the people would call back and say whatever ML suggested didn't work, it was a dead link, etc..

I just went on mlesko.com, but you can't buy just one book - it's a package and I think too expensive. Then I went on Amazon.com; there's a used copy of the How to Pay Your Bills (or whatever the title), and its cost is $20 plus s/h.

First please follow-through with ddc's suggestions; you may also go to the information desk at the local library. Many times the reference librarian will sort through titles and suggestions for you. God bless you - it will work out for you, and most of us have been there or know someone who has. Chin up. Remember your moniker is Beautiful.

I have read Matthew Lesko's books but I don't think that is your answer for immediate help. I think you should start with your local Department of Human Services, every state may be different, but in Texas for example, they have an emergency fund called TANF that will allow you a one time emergency payment of 1,000. Your local churches will have a community resources sheet that lists all the resources available in your area. These sheets include agencies that help with utilities, rent, local food pantries. Some telephone books list community resources in the first pages of the book. I don't think you will find a resource to pay all your bills every month but you can find a resource that will pay all your utilities every six months, or at least half of them. As far as ML Books, I found them very overrated as you can find the same informational resources on the Internet for free. Try searching for "human resources by state". Check with your local churches too, you do not have to be a member for them to either help you or point you in the right direction.

These books are really almost a scam. The information that they present is available from state agencies. To his credit, he did gather all of this information into a one stop shopping kind of place. However, the grants he talks about are really for low income.

Good luck

MOST places - FIA, DSS, Salvation Army, ETC DO NOT CONSIDER TELEPHONE a necessity!!!

To them a TELEPHONE is a luxury.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Try contacting a local church. MOST have money set aside for emergencies, shut off notices etc.
