I need money to buy a ticket to South Korea. I have a teaching job waiting for me, but can't afford the trip to South Korea. My 1st obstacle is obtaining Airfare, the 2nd obstacle is having enough savings to cover travel expenses and 3rd Obstacle is that I want to bring my cat. I have tried to sell a painting on Ebay with no results, I have tried finding a second job and I have no luck. The situation seems bleak and desperate! I need ideas on how to raise money quickly!

that sounds like a bad company to work for.

most (way more than some) will not only provide airfare, but living expenses and a small living stipend, or airfare and a salary.

as for bringing your cat, it shouldn't be a problem. if your pet is older than 3 months and has been vaccinated for rabies more than 30 days prior to entry and the vaccination is not expired, and has a valid rabies vaccination certificate, the pet will be released immediately. if not, however, kitty will be quarantined for 30 days.

I think the best solution is to contact the organization you will be working for teaching English. See if they can either pay for the trip or find you "sponsor" to do so. Many organizations in the Far East do this. They are desparate for native English speakers to teach. Be creative. BUT, be careful. Check out the company you will be working for. Do extensive research. MANY young ladies go to Korea thinking they have legitimate job offers and wind up being forced into prostitution. Be very careful.
But, if it does turn out to be legitimate, good luck. I have been to Korea, and I found it very enjoyable. You must try the Korean cuisine. It is excellent!

I thought if you taught English overseas that your airfare was paid for by them. Check into it!!! Research the company you would be working for. Some are proper and legal and some are scams. I would guess that it would be too expensive and to hard to get your cat into South Korea. Vaccinations, shipping, crate, quarantine, etc. A trip that long might kill the cat. Is there a Korean Association near you? Maybe they could help with travel expenses and steer you towards the right company to work for.

Approach your local Special Olympics Society with the idea of doing a raffle. As a non-profit they should be able to do two raffles a year. Raffles are a great way to raise money. You get the item donated, print out the tickets and get busy selling . I did a couple of raffles a few years ago, surprisingly the one that raised the most money was a hog raffle. Yes...I said a pig ! The pig was donated, a butcher donated the butchering and the tickets sold like hot cakes. WIth the economy the way it is now, a large amount of fresh meat would be an easy way to make money!

I'd be a little nervous if I were you. When my friend went back to Korea to teach English 3 years ago, most of the reputable recruiters included airfare as part of the job offer.

Sometimes you can go to the pizza places, such as pizza hut, and ask them about fund raising that you can get involved with that benefits both you and them. I had recently went to a grocery store in my community and told them that I was looking for fund raising for my neices girl scout trip and they made up coupon booklets that we were able to sell for $10.00 a peice and they only cost us $2.00 a piece.

Call the South Korean embassy. See if they have a program in place that may help.

I think that you would be able to be funded. Churches or grants would sponsor you. What about peace corps. You should not be required to pay your entire way.
I would like to know what you find out.
