There's a lot of good advice here. I would only add 1) ask if you can put up a sign -- a very neat, small, nice sign -- on lawns you have cared for. Roofing companies & husepainters do this. You could consider offering the property owner a discount in return for allowing your advertising. 2) Keep track of everything. Even if you don't do the analysis yourself, someone else can analyse your results & help youinderstand which customers are best to keep, which mower is the best deal, etc. 3) MAKE SURE YOUR FAMILY KNOWS WHERE YOU GO and when you'll return. A cell phone would be good !

find out what people pay for this service and charge a lesser price by maybe 20% and get enough accounts only that you can handle. but most important be very sure you can operate a power mower right as the injuries and even deaths caused is staggering A mower rotates at high rpm (revolutions per minute) it is able to pick up sticks and rocks, glass and launch them as projectiles. never ever put your fingers or hand in the blades to clear anything while the mower is running or plugged in. maybe you should consider using a manual mower in the beginning and upgrade to electric or gas later. Talk your plans over with your parents and maybe take your bike to the mower store (one that sells and services mowers)and have give you safe operating tips so you make money and are safe as well. good luck and remember if you don,t know what your,re doing don,t do it ask for help and never trust a power tool if your not careful it can hurt maim or worse kill you. Make a business plan (write out your answers so you will remember them):
1. Do you have your own equipment or will you need to use your customers' equipment?
2. What days/hours will you work? Can you set aside the same hours every week for your customers? People like to know they can rely on you to do the job on a regular basis, at the same time each visit.
3. What will you charge for your work? Will you ask for a certain amount for the job required, or will you ask for a set amount of money per hour? Find out what other kids are charging for their time. Or, ask trusted adults what they think would be a reasonable amount. This is not easy work, especially in the heat of the summer. You should ask for more than just minimum wage. Try to show possible customers that it is better for them to hire you, than to do it themselves, or hire someone else.
4. Exactly what jobs are you willing/able to do? How much time will it take? Do you have experience doing this? Do you have the time to do these jobs? If you make a promise to do this, will you keep your word?
5. How will you get to your customers' homes? They should be near enough to your home that it doesn't take too long. Your time is precious.
You need to know these answers, because your customers will ask the same questions and you want to know your answers ahead of time. People trust you more if you show that you have thought this through. If you are not sure about the answers, ask friends, family or trusted adults for their advice on these questions.
How will you let people know you want their business? Since you are just starting , I suggest you ask your neighbors first. It is best if you start with people you know and trust. Try to stay near your home at first. Also, start with only one or two customers. See if this is something you really want to do, and for how long. You may decide you love it, or you may not like it. Start slow because it takes time to get used to the work. If the people you work for like the job you do, ask them to recommend you to others. A recommendation is the best advertising!

You could get a job at Home depot to give ur self a foundation in the business. if you dont want to work there just ask them the questions. Moe your own yard and if mama likes your work you are set to go. Advertise in newspapers for free and go door to door like a religeous dood and hand out flyers. Stick flyers all over stores.

Use your lawn as an example of your work. Make fliers and hand them out to friends and neighbors. Invite them to drive pass your yard so they can see how good it looks. Post the flyer's all around your neighborhood. Ask local business if you can post flayers in their stores. Have a referral program. If a current customer refers someone to you give them a slight discount on their next service. Good luck.

Put up signs at the grocery store bulitan board, library, telephone poles. And go door to door in your neighboorhood.
Make sure you tell them that you have been doing your parents lawn so they know you have experiece.
Ask what your clients expectations are, do they want you to bag the brass or multch it back into the lawn. So you have to pick up dog poop before hand, twigs rocks etc... If so you can charge a little more.

Start with your neighbors and people you know. If you do good work word will spread about you and before you know it people will be asking for your service. As long as you do good work and are dependable it will happen. A lot of elderly home owners would probably love for someone else to do it. Yard work especially cutting grass is a chore that people would rather pay someone to do instead of doing it themselves.

be careful not to over charge for your service or you will price yourself out of work, especially when dealing with elderly people as they will probably be your main customers and are on fixed incomes. i have been doing this as a side job myself for the last 40 yrs. off and on. the key to success in doing yard work is always clean up after your done(sweep all the concrete areas). i wish you the best of luck, young men like yourself are few and far between.

Get a sponsor like Home depot Manager to spot you a mower and weed ,eater, blower get a cart to Carey them in behind your bike and bug your family for rides to jobs far away , Knock on doors around the blocks and businesses that need weeds pulled too . Be regular ,on time ,and keep a schedule book. so you dont forget the yards and what they like. how much they pay is good info to remember to. before you know it you will be to tired to spend the money . start a bank account . and save like a miser.
