I would trim ends where you can but it sounds like they are already trimmed! Immediate med bills like the doc you see every month, you should pay so you can continue to see them. Other med bills, like a hospital you had to go to once, or a surgery, or lab results take your time paying. Just make payments, whatever you can -even if its only $10/month. I think they will be happy to see something rather then nothing. Write a note saying you intend on paying the full balance but that you limited income & you will be making small payments until it is paid off. (Make a copy of this letter just in case) They may continue to send bills or even call and threaten but unless a single bill is in the tens of thousands of dollars, I doubt they will anything more than empty threats. It would cost them too much in legal fees to pursue other than phone calls & -as the old saying goes- you can't draw blood from a turnip anyway.
In the meantime, go to your local welfare/human resource office & ask them what kind of help you may be eligible for. They will probably have a list of things you can apply for. Apply for everything you can. Even if you don't directly need food etc. accept the help for awhile anyway as it will help free up cash for other things to help you get a 'leg up'.

the answer to your question is very simple - there is no way. Until this government fixes our medical (i.e., insurance) system, you can't survive. Well, I'll tell you what my sister did. Understanding that the bills for her cancer would overwhelm her financially as well as emotionally (she is a person who has always paid her bills), she simply did not open the bills until all the treatments were over. Now that she is opening them, a lot of the charges have been handled by insurance but she will probably not pay those which will not be. If you don't have insurance, the answer is the same - don't pay them and don't stress. There is no way to keep your health if you stress. I know this sounds simplistic but it is in this day and age the only way to survive a system that is set up for us, as Americans, to fail. Only the rich can make this work and maybe that's the whole point. Yes, I am jaded but I'm also paying attention - are you?

Negotiate with your creditors. Is there absolutely no relative or friend who will let you room with them until you get better? If you have $100.00 to spare, you can make an investment and start a small business. You can become an independent contractor with a few companies, but it depends on what you like to do and who you know. You could sell Mary Kay, (www.marykay.com) Avon (http://www.youravon.com/REPSuite/become_a_rep.page), Melaluca (http://www.melaluca.com) or some other product from your home or within your community. Sell off some valuables you own from home on Ebay or Amazon.com to make a little money. Many people go to libraries and buy recent good books for .25 cents to $1.00 and check the (free) Internet to see their value. If they'll turn a profit (Amazon pays you back for postage) they buy the used book. Actually take some of the advice you get and call around to United Way, the Salvation Army, local churches and government agencies. There are programs and people to assist you. You'll make it if you try (and persist). Best wishes and I pray you feel much better really soon.

I am in the same situation and the way I help to make ends meet is by using my computer to make extra money. I play games that pay money such as poker and bingo, I Ebay...just go to thrift stores and flea markets and find items to sale and make a profit. You could also sale at flea markets on weekends to make some pretty decent money. There are lots of ways to make some extra money if you just sit down and think about it. Could try babysitting also..these are just a few ways off the top of my head..hope it helps ya.

Consider getting rid of the car and moving into section 8 housing (government subsidized) that is near bus line. Getting rid of the car will save several thousand per year, and section 8 housing will also save quite a bit.
You may have to cut out luxuries though.

Get in touch with your county social services. A social worker knows the "ins & outs" of the system and can help you greatly. They will also work on your behalf to get your medication through the health system where you live. God Bless.

Is there no social assistance to help with the bills? Perhaps a job from the home could help you out.

there are medical assistance programs in most cities. Many will work on your behalf to lower your medical bills or will help you pay them. you obviously have access to a computer, look up your city's home page and see what you can find
