I would like any information regarding submitting receipts for repairs that need to be done to my home. I have a large deductable and the repair expenses go beyond the claim payment. Can I hire a handy man or do the work myself? What documentation do I need to provide my insurance company as proof that the work is completed.

We are having a really difficult time financially. My husband gets a very large bonus in December and we will be back on track and then some. So here's my question. I recently went to the ER and the ER has billed me for $700, saying I am responsible for this, insurance is not making a payment. My insurance company just sent me a check for $700. It is made out to me and states that the provider (doctor) was out of network so they are paying me and I am to use it to pay what the doctor bills me.

Is it legal to deposit the check in my account and send him payments until december and use the extra to help us through our rough time financially.... or do I have to send the full $700 to the doctor immediately.

My father's health insurance runs through Cigna and his company covers people through the age of 25 if they are full-time students. They only ask to see verification of your course schedule. Last year I faxed the coordinator my schedule and was approved but I dropped the courses. This year I plan on taking a full-time fall/winter term schedule but they need verification by tomorrow. Can I lie and give them my proposed schedule or does that cause harsh penalties?

My brother has a preexisting back problem and his insurance carrier refuses to pay for any doctors visits that involve his back. So he was wondering if there is an insurance company that would pay for his doctor visits for his back even though it is a preexisting condition.

My doctor's office refuses to pre-authorize prescriptions with the insurance company. When I go to the pharmacy, the prescriptions then can't be filled. So I end up paying for the insurance coverage, the doctor's office visit copayment, but can't get the medication. Do I have any recourse other than to change my primary care physician? I've tried talking to the insurance company, but they say all I can do is file a complaint. Does the dept of banking and insurance have any jurisdiction over the doctor offices' non-compliance with the insurance company's contract?

A friend of mine offered to sell me his book of business. In about 12 months, he built a $2M book with over 3000 clients mainly P&C pers lines. To say the least, it will be a problem book that will require lots of work. IE. invalid discounts offered, low limits, bad service, underinsured homes, etc. Service is my strong point and do believe that i can salvage about 50-80% of the business. He is offering it to me at very low risk...Here are the details. 10K down (owner financed for 36 mo 0% interest). I pay him 50% of the renewal commisions every mo for 36 mo with no minimum guarantee on his part and the most i would have to pay is 190K, whichever occurs first. Also, I have to take over his lease which is approx 1K/mo for 5 years. He has non competes from him and his producers. I am too inexperienced to make this decision on my own. Please give me any advice and your thoughts. Thanks.

If I am laid off in October but obtain temp jobs for 3 months or so, if there are no longer assignments available, can I then apply for unemployment, or will it be too late?

I want to make sure that if I do take on temp work, I won’t lose my chance of getting unemployment in case I do not find a full time permanent position.

Does anyone know about this?

Thanks

Which one carries more weight with regards to credibility in the Property & Casualty insurance industry? And is there a suggested time frame to go after it (i.e. 1 year or 2 years of experience)? I currently work for a transportation insurance agency and have only worked in the insurance industry for about 4 months now, but I was in the transportation industry for about 3 years.

Do you think that it would matter if I went after these designations now or waited? I don't want to waste anytime, but a few have told me that it may be best to wait a few years...I am not married yet...nor do I have a family...so I wanted to knock a few of these designations out before that happened, and then go after my CPCU...

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for your help!!
