It's darned hard to stall for 8 months, asking for more and more info. I"m guessing it's taking a while for you to get this info to them?

It's time to call your AGENT, and let them work this through - get a list of exactly WHAT they need to finish out the claim.

Insurance companies are required to take positions on claims which then can be contested. Given your summary we are unable to determine the root cause.

I would suggest calling your agent with details. They are well positioned to make some calls to find the angles if any around your interuption of payment.

Be careful, there are timeframes depending on your jurisdiction with appeals and complaints ranging from 30 days to 2 years. Don't go to your agent when this has exhausted or you may end up eating it.

Why does this sound like the company is Allstate?

If it's the insurance company of someone else, get your own agent involved. If it's your company, keep calling them and be a real pain - and eventually ask "what do I have to do to get this settled? Go to the state insurance commission?" - that might give them incentive to get moving.

Is this a question or a vent? You have not given enough detail for me to answer anything
