I have been at my current company for nearly two years and I have had one payrise at my request. I would like to ask for a pay rise to bring my salary in line with the rising inflation. I am good at my job and have had excellent reports in all my appraisals. Salary reviews & appraisals take place in April whilst I am on maternity leave. I feel I shouldn't be penalised just for having a baby.

I am an admin asst. and the worst part of my job is cleaning up after the meetings like I am some freakin slave. I feel so low when I have to do that. No one says thanks and that is not what I went to college for. I try to be chipper about it and I remind myself that I have to work my way up, but how is cleaning up the lunch order going to help me in my career??? At least if I was still waiting tables, I was gettign tipped.

What is the thing you have to do for work that you hate the most???

Anybody that knows or been through an interview like this..

I had an interview today for a police officer position. I am an auxiliary officer with this department and have been for 4 years, know most of the guys, higher ups, etc. Today was the interview for a full time position. The interview went well, however a few times, the police chief mentioned things like, "if you don't get it this time, we're going to be hiring a lot next year.." and "don't get discouraged, your application will remain on file for a year" He mentioned that a few times. He asked about 5 questions about me.

When he said that I started to get worried.. I go to all the training, calls, etc.. however, when they mention things like that, is that a bad sign? Or do they tell that to everbody? I know people on the department and I am sure my lieutenant on the department will put a word in for me?

I had to file Chapt 13 (repayment) bankruptcy after my business went under, to protect the house for the family. Now, I can't even get a job, it seems due to the bankruptcy. Our lawyer told us that we were one of less than 20 bankruptcys he has done in the last 15 years that was truly legit, and NOT due to reckless spending. Why don't employers ask about it instead of just assuming that I am not responsible? I opened the business to try and HELP the economy! I have applied for positions that I know that I must be in the top 1% or so of candidates, but I don't even get called for an interview. Or when I do, they do the background check and turn me down. I have passed FBI screenings and gotten every job I have ever applied for up to this point; there is NOTHING else in my background that is negative. Is there some way to put something on my resume to help with this? Has anyone else been through this? Please, no "work from home" offers like I have seen answering others questions.

I am so miserable. I feel like I am in jail. I am controlled on every aspect of my life. What steps do you take to leave. We have lived together for 6 years nad have a child. The bank account is in his name and everything else is as well. I do work. I know I am stupid for letting him have as much control. I really am strong but I am amiable. I just let things happen. So please dont tell me how stupid I am just help me....PLEASE

I've been at my current job for about 2 and a half years. I've been a model employee, punctual, hard working, eager to please.

But lately I've had a series of unfortunate events. My kids got sick so I had to take leave to care for them. Then my babysitter got sick and I ultimately had to dismiss her and get a new sitter. My car died a sudden and horrible death of a blown head gasket. I had to buy a new car. I also just bought a house and I've been trying to get moved into it.

My boss is comparing me now to the bottom of the barrel of my office mates (no call no shows for weeks at a time) and it really disturbs me. I've called an communicated throughout my ordeals, worked from home, anything I could come up with to lessen the impact of my abscenses.

What should I do? I'm starting to get back to normal but my boss is treating me like garbage. He says he wants to help me advance but I'm really hating his approach.
