as what i have observed...most companies especially those into selling liquors...cigarettes...etc. they use sexy women in their ads...is it really necessary to use women in those ads? will it increase saleability of products? what does it connote?

Besides link exchanges, what are other ways to get your link out there for search engines to pick up and rank your website?

If your site is a cooking site but you add your site as a link to sports related forums, would your site be penalized or ban from the search engines?

I am going to be starting a service where I manually submit people's websites to web directories. I know there are problems with auto submitters, and that they should not be used, but I don't remember what the problems are. I'm currently writing my ad copy, so if someone knowledgeable in this SEO-type field could answer my question, then great.
