You are hired as a consultant! Your first assignment is to discuss which competitive advantage you believe the following scenarios fall into: absolute advantage, comparative advantage, or national competitive advantage. Your client also needs you to describe your rationale for your selections on each scenario.

a) A nation has companies with the capacity to make stereo equipment at a much lower price than other national producers because of lower cost labor. The stereo equipment is of the same quality as other international producers.

b) A country mines for a high-demand precious gem only found within that country’s borders and distributes the gems to jewelry dealers all over the world.

c) An overseas country passes laws to protect certain business practices that other countries may find unsuitable and perhaps unethical. The protection of these business practices are not seen as abusive or exploitive within the overseas country and are also consistent with national social standards.

At the beginning of the school year I was fired due to decreased enrollment at the school were I taught. The other teacher who teaches the same subject that I taught ( only two of us) was choosen to stay on in that position. She is uncertified. She has not passed all the testing that my state requires. She is not a "highly-qualified" teacher accoding to the department of education in our state. She has worked in this position over a decade. I am "highly-qualified." I passed all of the testing necessary for certfication. I did not receive any bad evaluations. All of this information is on public record for my district to see. Why does she have a job? I could not find another teaching position on such short notice. I went back to school and enrolled in student teaching. I am happy to say that I am fully certified.

I recently took a buyout package to seperate from my employer. The only problem is now I can't find a job. I have been unempolyed for a month and a half and only had one interview. I can't even get an entry level job in retail or fast food. At this point I just want a job. My education is focused on management and I even went as far to run a background check on myself (which came up clean). I have applied for at least 100 jobs, but it is all online and noone has apply in person anymore. What can I do to at least get interviews?

My friend is an experienced freelance journalist and plans to set up a business offering writing services - everything from feature articles for newspapers to brochure copy for corporations, from editing company reports to writing press releases, plus production management (overseeing designers, photographers and printers). Plus she has some plans to write and publish gift books on her own account. She's been working under her own name but feels she needs more of a 'corporate' name, but can't think of one that either sums up what she does without being too long, or that is both attractive yet vague enough to cover anything. Any ideas welcome!

Would you choose a career that is stable, potentially lucrative but boring as all hell. Or would you choose a career that is less stable, not as potentially lucrative, but interesting?

I've gone through the entire interview process with a company. They just called to say that they wanted to do a background check on me. What all are they looking for? What would hinder me from being hired?

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? When should I expect to hear back from them?

I got a MIP when I was 20 & went to jail for that. Stupid college night. I'm 26 now & have been clean as a whistle! Should I be worried?

I work at a job that I love when it goes well. Trouble is, it never does. I have weekly deadlines every Thursday, and the same thing happens every week. I don't take Monday and Tuesday seriously enough and so by Wednesday, I have about half of my work done. I love the people I work with and I'm tired of testing their patience with my half-assedness. One of the problems is I'm afraid of messing up, so I just put off doing work. I'm terrified to make phone calls and talk to people, but that's 90 percent of what I do. I'm in no danger of losing my job, but I want to be a better employee. How can I get more work done and stop being so stressed and scared all the time? You should also know that I've had this job for nearly a year, so I'm not really new at this. I should be doing better by now, but every week I get more and more behind. Everyone else is a better worker than me and they all know it, I'm sure. Am I being to hard on myself? I'm insecure as hell about this, so go easy on me.
