I am under the impression that earnest money is to be presented when I sign a sales contract which shows I am committed. It does not make sense to me that I would have to give someone an earnest deposit to make a verbal offer in a bidding war with other people and have them do the same. I had a real estate agent today ask me for an earnest money deposit to even make a verbal offer. He also told me that two other people had given him $1000.00 each just to make an offer. Is this common practice, ethical or even legal?

Is there an easy, low-cost, tax-efficient way to invest in the entire video game industry (both US and Japan)? Are there exchange traded funds (ETF) that track only video game stocks? Index funds?

I just started looking for a new job, I'm 32 yrs old, Latina and pretty curvy body (not trying to sound big headed), I'm a singe mom, so I’m looking for a good paying and interesting job. It seems like any male mgrs at interviews don’t bother to look at my resume, they go ahead and offer me the position. I like to think I have a good head on my shoulders, but im starting to wonder if I should just apply for a way paying position, even if I don’t have all the experience they want, and go for it....I know that if I am trained once, I will catch on...but is it wrong to do this?

My mom and my step dad have declared bankruptcy one or two times in the last 10 years. My older brother now lives with them because his health hasn't been so great for some time. Needless to say their credit isn't so good after filing for bankruptcys. Now I hear the bank has gone to foreclose their home and they say to us, their adult children that they have their lawyer working on it but don't tell us much else. My parents havent made such great choices about their money in the past so we are pretty skeptical. Not only that a majior reason why they are in this finacial hell is because my step dad fell for an internet e-mail scam. I and my brother am trying to help them as much as we can with our own practical smarts but they haven't told us any details so far. From what we gather my parents could be housless come Febuary. What can be done to help them legally and, or what would you do about all this?
