I called last week about $$. Was told "its in the mail" when I asked how much longer should I wait for it seeing it had been 2 weeks, was told "take it up with your post office". We are in dire financial bind and there has to be something I can do. This is a "last paycheck" from a company that I am no longer emplyed with (I quit) to take another job. I talked with long time employee of the company and was told "not to hold breath about last check". Can they do this? Legally?

The taxpayer, a resident of California, appeared on TV quiz show and won a new car. The producer of the program had paid $20,000 for the car. However, the taxpayer had no interest in the car and needed cash. The taxpayer visited several dealers to offer the car for sale. The taxpayer eventually sold the car to a dealer for $16,000. The IRS contends the taxpayer's income from the prize is $20,000. Is the IRS correct?

I have a second interview with a naval museum. I went through the first interview and finally, six months later, I get a second interview. However, I have a bit of a stumbling block and I'd like some unbiased advice.

The first interviewer asked me why I left my last job. I told him that I was "laid off" and since I was too excited about getting the job, I forgot to explain WHY.

The reason why I was "let go" was that at the time, I was in school and I had a lot of pressure on me from that as well as some personal issues at home (not to mention that I came into work feeling lethargic). All of that took its toll and during rush, I accidentally came off as rude to a few customers. That's why I was let go. Career counselors have told me to say it as being "laid off" and explain it honestly but tactfully.

So how do I explain this to the second interviewer? I'm not lying and I refuse to lie at all. I really, really, really want this job.

My wife is currently on maternity leave without pay. We just recieved a bill from the benefits company that is requesting payment for health/dental, AND our flexible spending account that we use for daycare. I know that we are responsible for the health insurance premiums since we are still covered and they can't take it out of her "non-existent" paycheck, but payment to the FSA makes no sense. The whole point of that account is to send in pre-tax money. Shouldn't we not have to pay and then just not have that money available for reimbursement?

I have been on Social Security Disability now for 1 year. I spent 6 years before that unemployed and fighting to get help for my disability. If you are familiar with SSD, you know you may be in for a wait. My wife works full time and has been there for seven years. We acquired a lot of medical bills while I was down and are presently in the process of paying those off( we allowed a lien to go through on my wifes paycheck at 25% taken out for the medical bills) Our problem now is that we need financing for a car and don't know where to turn. Both of our credit ratings are lower now due to the medical bills. We were able to buy our house over a year ago using just her credit rating. Now mine is higher than hers due to the lien on her payroll but still fairly low.

I work in sales, and I have been in sales for about 10 years. I'm only 26 years old, and sales is all I have ever done. I used to like it until now. Now I just can't stand begging people to spend money with me and purchase my product for their business. It's a very demoralizing feeling, and I always feel unwanted by the business owners. I don't like approaching people cold to ask them to buy my crap. Do I need to just be a man and accept that nobody likes their jobs and just do it, or do I need a career makeover? If not sales, then what can I do? How do I find what my calling is? Please help, all advice appreciated! Thanks.
