I have a second interview with a naval museum. I went through the first interview and finally, six months later, I get a second interview. However, I have a bit of a stumbling block and I'd like some unbiased advice.

The first interviewer asked me why I left my last job. I told him that I was "laid off" and since I was too excited about getting the job, I forgot to explain WHY.

The reason why I was "let go" was that at the time, I was in school and I had a lot of pressure on me from that as well as some personal issues at home (not to mention that I came into work feeling lethargic). All of that took its toll and during rush, I accidentally came off as rude to a few customers. That's why I was let go. Career counselors have told me to say it as being "laid off" and explain it honestly but tactfully.

So how do I explain this to the second interviewer? I'm not lying and I refuse to lie at all. I really, really, really want this job.

Would it be ok if I said that I'd like to add some information I left out of the first interview?

Six months....they said it was because they were busy with so many stuff that they didn't get to my phone calls. It was also partially my fault for getting the phone extension number mixed up :( and they hired different people.

Don't be discouraged about not being called for a second interview right away; the government can take a very long time (I used to work for the Dept. of the Navy as a civilian).

If the second interviewer does not bring up why you left that position, then leave it be. If they ask for additional information, tell them what you've said here. Don't go into too much personal information as recruiters don't want to hear drama. You can simply say, "There were some major life circumstances occuring at that time. Unfortunately, they affected my work performance with that particular employer." Sound genuinely sorry when you say it. Most recruiters will not ask you for details about those "life circumstances."

From there, you will most likely be asked the next question, so just move on with confidence.

Remember, don't dwell on negative information. Answer a question quickly but honestly. Don't elaborate unless the interviewer asks you to.

Maintain your enthusiasm for this position and emphasize the positive skills that you bring to the job. Good luck.

the 2d interview itself would be equivalent to the 1st in some respects: a communique with one or 2 interviewers, or with a panel. it quite is in all likelihood to variety from the 1st contained in right here procedures: The interview would be greater heavily on the subject count of the artwork you may do than the 1st - your interviewer could be a line supervisor. 2d interviews for artwork of a technical nature might pass into technical questions in better intensity. you will be able to correctly be interviewed by potential of greater senior individuals of workforce: senior workers and/or line managers Your first interviewer might have left notes of any factors from that interview which choose following up, which contain obvious weaknesses or loss of expertise/motivation. think of roughly any factors of your first interview which you sense you will have dealt with greater ideal – those will quite much quite arise returned! With some employers, the 2d point of the determination technique will contain no longer something better than this interview; with, in line with danger, a excursion of the premises and a wager to fulfill others. Many important recruiters, besides the shown fact that, will use a 'determination centre' (additionally standard as an 'assessment centre). An interview is barely one portion of a variety centre, that still will contain psychometric assessments, in-tray workouts, team discussions, team initiatives and guy or woman shows. (it rather is particularly actual while recruitment of graduates is occurring). shop cool and robust success!

It doesn't sound like they are going to question your last employment status and are eager to hire you on.
Only if you are hard pressed would I mention about your last employment with emphasis on what you have learned as a result and how you attend to conduct yourself with your present employer.
