I use CHI flat iron to straighten my hair, but during the day it always turns a bit wavy. How can I get it to stay really really straight the same way it looks when im done flat ironing it?

My hair is really thick, cut shoulder-length. I want a sprial perm, and I have gorgeous hair now. (not to be stuck-up) I just hate my thick hair, and I can't ever get it to do what I want, and I can't get it to hold a curl from a curling iron. Will it make my hair gross? And how does it look while it grows out, since my hair grows really fast? Can I straighten it with a straightener? I want ringlets. Should I get it done at like a JCPenny's, or can I get it done at Famous Hair? (A cheap salon) Help!
