First off I want to let you know I'm a beautician. Oil really doesn't do anything for your hair but make it look better. But once you wash it the benefits are gone. The oil can't penetrate the hair shaft. Think about it when our hair gets oily we wash it out comes the oil. The best thing would be to deep condition it with something that will put moisture and protein back into the hair. My favorite is Matrix hair repair mask. It's a deep conditioning treatment you do once a week.

It depends on your ethnicity. If your caucasian, you should totally stay away from oils that need to be left in, they make the hair oilly quicker. But if you are African-American and you have processed your hair with relaxers you can mix olive oil and mineral oil in an applicator bottle. Every three days, heat the mixture in the microwave and apply the oil mixture to your hair and it will actually heal the hair from the root to the tip.

My braiding technician taught me to do that even when I don't have braids, especially right after I wash my hair because it helps to control dryness from shampoos. My hair is really healthy and thick now.

Here is the regimen that I use when my hair gets extremely dry in winter and summer:

Once or twice a week:

Massage a dollop of mayonnaise into your hair and leave it on for one hour OR comb olive oil through your hair with a wide tooth comb and leave on all night (shampooing it out in the morning).

Shampoo (choose a shampoo for dry, damaged hair. I use Pantene Pro-V.)

Condition your hair and leave conditioner on for 5 minutes (after I put conditioner on, I pull my hair back with a scrunchie while I wash the rest of my body…this takes 5 minutes or longer. I also use Pantene Pro-V conditioner).

Towel dry (do not blow dry unless you HAVE to, it will make dry hair even dryer!). Apply a dab of VO5 Conditioning Hairdressing from about the middle of your hair to the tips. Do not apply it to the roots or your hair will look greasy. (It comes in a tube. The box it is packaged in is gold colored).

Style as usual.

For the rest of the week:

Use the VO5 just on the VERY ENDS of your hair….every morning before styling.

Tea Tree Oil or Carrot Oil. Applied to tips once daily (not a lot), and make sure you do this after a trim ( for a fresh start) you'll notice your hair won't break as easily after a week of treatment.

ive just watched a program earlier that said that almond oil is good for the hair. they use that a lot during the heian period in japan (when girls have really lonnnnnnnng, healthy hair). as for the split ends the solution for that is to have a haircut or a hair trim.
