I have a Canon digital rebel xti. I also have a home studio with alien bee flash-heads. Right now im working with the kit lens (18-55mm f/4.5-5.6) but im pretty sure that wont cut it with a pro studio... i was thinking either a prime 50mm f/1.4 / 85mm f/1.8 or a 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS lens.

Have recently been experimenting with night time photography with long exposures (around 30 second shutter speed). Have found if i have the aperature set to F2, the photograph produced is vibrant and colourful! However, if the aperature is set to F16, the image is darker and red! I understand that F16 has a smaller iris/aperture, so less light gets to the sensor, making it darker, but why the redness? Is this something to do with light bending like redshift??????

Hey guys,

So I'm pretty sure I heard about a picture that some publication (maybe National Geographic) put out that was computer-enhanced to show how a person in the future might look if they were mixed with a little of every ethnicity in the world.

I'm very interested to see this picture so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

my photo teacher said the pictures have to be shot before november 1st and have to be about the holidays?
only... they're being sent out in december.. and most people don't even have any "winter holiday" stuff out yet.
it can't have anything religious or anything set on one holiday.
we can't even use candycanes...
any suggestions would be great!
i will choose the best answer :]!

Does anyone know how to meter a shot by zones and then calculate, so that every zone you can manipulate it and expose it as you want...all in just one shot. It`s a very hard procedure. Tnx

My sister got married in 2005 and used film because she was told by her photographer that if something happened to a roll of film she would be out about 15 pictures, but if something happened with digital, she would be out everything. Has anyone heard of this and what about for a 2009 weddng? Film or digital?

I have just started a photography course and am looking to get a few books to learn a little more and help me along. I am looking for something that can help me really understand aperture, shutter speed, and all the basics etc preferably with visual examples. Must be an easy to understand book.
Then I am also looking for something that is a little more 'creative'.......you know learn to really explore the world of photography, something with loads of really amazing photos as inspiration and how to see things differently than the average photographer.

So if anyone has read anything along these lines plz let me know - thanks!!

Ok sorry to many emails to reply to, so heres a link to the image - yahoo might delete it again if someone reports me again.....so be quick

http://flickr.com/photos/martini2005/1631025844/

the quesion was " do i look like a horse" - i got lots of funny and great answers.........one person reported the question.

i did ask yahoo why - 3 times - but well how will they explain it even if they could be bothered - "your question was deleted cause someone who always reports you didnt like people having fun"

so any ideas why it was reported? is it offensive to anyone? (ok if they think they look like a horse maybe?)

another horse image:

I've been trying to get some blurry waterfall or moving object shots. Whenever I choose slow shutter and turn off the image stabilizer, the picture still comes out clear. The starry-night mode gives you a slow shutter but it's a 15 second minimum---which might work on a waterfall if I get the apature right so it's not overexposed.

I also want to try some panning, moving object shots so the object appears clear and the background is blurry.

I heard a low-ISO can help, but in Intelligent ISO mode, it won't let you change shutter speed, and in normal mode, I can't figure out how to change ISO.

Are there any scene modes that will let me get a blurry shot? It seems like this camera is designed for clear shots, which is nice...except when you want blur.

Thanks for any help!
