Visual Arts - March 2007

I am looking to get a good portrait lens. Preferably Nikon or another reputable brand. I would like to have a fast lens or somewhat fast. Somewhere between 18-70, 18-200. Nothing over $400. Any suggestions, greatly appreciated.

I have several lighthouse pictures for reference and they are all taken on land. My preference is for the one that has tree branches at the top on either side of the picture. There is a picnic table in the forground. My problem is composition. Framing the lighthouse with green leaves is good, but what else can I do to make this picture special and not boring?

The old photo albums that I am referring to are the kind where you put a picture on a sticky cardboard and cover, I believe, with a piece of cellophane or plastic. After a few years the pictures become stuck in the photo album and are almost impossible to remove without ripping the pictures.

i want to know if there is a long life span with block mounted photographs. I've had one person say mdf is acidic and photos fade in colour eventually and a block mounter has told me that the lamination process eliminates the harmful effect of the mdf.

I'm a new painter, and just so you know from the start, I am very good. I'm represented by a gallery in Columbus, but I live on the West side of Cleveland. I know I could hoof it around with my portfolio, but I am agoraphobic and this is nearly impossible for me. If I know in advance that someone is open to emering artists, it would make my quest so much easier. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Many who draw and like art and who get hooked on anime or manga want to draw japanese style anime characters but

they forget about being creative and and making their own style drawings.

I started a project last week, i'm making stories in a comic book fashion cause i have a program where you can incorporate images and add Dialogue bubbles( Comic life). ANyways, i won't and i refuse to make any of my drawings like Japanese manga style. I just make them my style. They dont' look anything like japanese .

But why is it other people fall into the trap of wanting to copy japanese style anime or manga characters.

I am an artist who does paintings about faith and hope and belief, and pictures about children. I also have been recently diagnosed with lupus. I am also a 4th and 5th grade teacher. I need help coming up with orginal ideas to paint, because it is what I love to do and helps keep me focused. If you know where I can get some orginal ideas, I would really appreciate it, or if you have suggestion.

See i love art, i can be better with practice, i would love to take art classes, but i feel they would not help me gain a good well-payed career, unless i was really good....so...anyone have any suggestions on what careers are out there that are well payed, and that invlove some sort of drawing, painting, etc. I dont want to be a starving artist >.< Any sugestions?
