Is there a local arts association that you could contact about hanging some of your work in their gallery? Or what are the regulations in your area for a sidewalk display of your work? Offer to paint - for free - the school mascot in some public place in the school building itself - in the gym, in the cafeteria, etc. Remember, this is about the PUBLICITY. Reproduce some local landmarks in your medium - or some local VIPS -and donate the work to the family or the town.

Get your work "out there" for everyone to see... go to local galleries and show your work. Create a website with your work or post some of your creations on an art related website like deviantart.com or such... Also some local coffee shops, etc. like to display art by local artists... thats a good way to get your stuff seen as well.

I joined an artist directory, participate in doing art for charity, have my art in 3 websites, one of them my own; http://www/lochertheartist1.bravehost.com
I also have had shows in the past, and make sure to pass out my business cards at shows. Its LOTS of hard work, as I have yet to really make any money selling my work, much to my dismay.
