Does anyone know if alcohol or drugs have an affect on poetry? I know things like depression do, but that just causes depressing poems. Someone told me Freddie Mercury used ecstacy as a creative stimulant. A lot of great poets and story writers(like Edgar Allen Poe) were also acloholics.

Tears
I feel so sad,
my memories are slowly being thrown away.
There's nothing I can do to stop the process
of my slowly dimming confidence.
Without them,
I am nothing.
Today I cry myself to sleep
wishing I could be back in the land of happiness.
Dreaming of the day
I hear their voices again.
Praying for it to be the same.
But, wishes aren't granted,
and sooner or later we all wake up from our dreams.
Prayers aren't always heard.
I guess I'll have to spend another year crying.

The Angel Beside Me
Written by Semper Fi Reborn

The Lord surely loves me.
Everywhere I go,
I'm protected.
For the Christ that lives above me,
Is resurrected!
He has comissioned His Angels,
To guard my person.
Lest my sins let me dangle,
Over a hellish version.
Of misery.
See?
There's an angel beside me.

Where could I stroll,
Without God's Mercy?
Where would I end up,
If He would not hear?
My Lord never does desert me.
For without Him,
There'd be no here,
Or there,
Or over yonder.
No will or thoughts,
No need to ponder.
The Lord Is,
Let His Glory be.
He placed His Angel beside me.

There is no prayer,
He hasn't answered me.
His interest does accrue.
You don't believe me?
Look to your sides!
There are angels guarding you too!

flowers need sunshine
violets need dew
the love that you recieve
is a gift from me to you
like pen to a paper
like candles on a cake
i love the way you make me feel every single day
like apples on a tree
like grapes on a vine
you told me no matter what happens you'll always be mine
i love what more can i say

"A soaked covered mattress houses one score
Feathered covered softness shelters the dread
Wondering if life can take anymore
Dreams of tall soft meadows travel in
A disconnected gaze upon shadow walls
Dark waters depth never shallow
Crimson red darkness sprinkles Opaque white veils
Death hidden within the center of the flower’s head
A land of wonderment set before your eyes
Moments of the now carried in to the future
Vails of awe, remembered dread
Childish thoughts within dreams"

.Screwdriver Autopsy

'You are the love of my life...first, and last, husband.
We'll be together till the end of time...
I'll wash your Gold Wing Touring bike.'

'Didn't know it was dirty.
What's the screwdriver for? '
'Those hard-to-reach places.'
He bought the truth...but, I held Aces.

You never run a bluff
On the 'clean-up' batter.
Don't 'call' her hand...
She'll show you what's the matter....

'I'm taking the car...
Bike won't start.'
'Okay. Maybe I
Washed the wrong part.'

'What part, Lover? '
'All those wires.
I unscrewed
The engine cover...'

Three days' vacation
That Gold Wing sat and had.
Touchdown for the Home Team! ! !
Ain't that just too damned bad.

I put my faith among unknown truths,
Until enlightened, "faith" is my refuge.
Staying rewarded through generosity...
Enlightenment is useful to all, obviously.

Knowing your thinking mind
is a step towards the sublime.
Move towards ridding yourself of pain;
removing obstacles which shouldn't remain.

I mean these words dont exactly rhyme, but I think they sound good. Example:

And he tells me of his weird aliens, his life story, and his rhymes,
And I’m afraid, more then him, that this stuff no one will buy

Eons ago, they were dignity, and horror of flames -
they became today memories and echoes,
smiles of clouds and birds' confabulations.
They, the irreplaceable, They, the unchanging...
For lazy Gods, they are guardians of the world,
For lovers they are the ideals, or oath of two hearts.
For children, they are children, but more beautiful,
and for poets - the very grandeur of the word,
For the departed - a white lillly which bloomed too soon,
and for the knights - the fire and the sword,
for the sleeping - a mere dream within a dream,
and for me... everything and nothing at once!
But for sprites, born of water brightness
they are neglected in azure legends...

A lone star
Brightly sparkling up on high
Illuminates the weary
Yet irradiated faces of the Magi
At last journeys end
Sonorous songs of praise rend the air
“Oh, glory, glory, alleluia
Peace and goodwill to all races”
So sweet was the angelic voices
That from within -
Wherein lies the swaddled Word
Who is born King and Lord -
Comes loud livestock lows and bleats
Joining in the song of peace.

You Know What You Did
Written By Semper Fi Reborn

Yeah, I saw you.
Just running in the room,
And giving everyone the best parts.
Tiny loving pieces,
Of all your blessed hearts.
Sashaying around the room,
Like a friend who gives joy.
Like a child,
Who let's their best friend,
Play with their best toy.
You know what you did.
I saw you do it.
Making everyone smile.
Opening up the doors of miracles.
Giving love in great big piles.
Don't try to hide,
Although you're humble.
Although your radiance does shine.
There are many friends in the world.
But I am Blessed,
You're one of mine!
You know what you did!

If I were an artist
I’d paint a horizon
Colored by sunlight
A red morning glow

If I could sing loudly
I’d thunder a chorus
Of hope and fulfillment
A great destiny

But I’m the dead poet
A word’s all I offer
Sorrowful laughter
With stilled memories

So here are my verses
Indulgent repartee
A vision in language
A voice from the grave

Life, through a sight glass
Prepared, stylized, perfected
Controlled experiment
Organized information
Logical outcome

When I, under a quiet autumn moon
Spied a vision of beauty beyond belief
In her sleep, with the golden leaves falling
I laid next to her and stared at the sky

Love, through a looking glass
Pretentious, stubborn, perfect
Uncontrolled excitement
Organ grinder’s monkey
Illogical outcry

Lady

Lady, once proud, I see you all laced in bodice and gown.

Head held high by dignity, and ancestoral pride.
Enveloped in the love of family.

Lady...

Now I see you crying tears of shame. Embraced only by your lonliness.
Your father unknown,
unknown ye to your mother.

History has given you the name of "Lady"

Even now,
as I see your hair of blue, bare midriff, and tongue pierced.
Head held high only by your will to be. But thoughts within, oh thoughts within.

With the gaining of your freedom, where has your security gone, with your strength, your weakness exudes. With your shedding of chains and garments, comes the nakedness of your soul.

Proud no more, Lady I see you cast your eyes down.

“Were Just friends”

One day when its way too late
Your going to say
“I love you”
And then when I don’t reply
Your going to muster up everything you have
And ask..
“Do you love me?”
“You already know what I will say”

“I used to love you”
And I wish I still did
But you were with that other girl
And you were way to blind
To see what was right in front of you
The whole time
I’ve dropped you hints, and I’ve tried to
Make it clear
But you never caught on
So right now
I’m going to have to say
“Were just friends”
Like you did to me all those times.

I'm so used to writing poems with 4-6 abcb stanza's (that's what they're called, right? :S). I want to write my bf a poem for christmas. I started, and I immediatly starting my rhyming pattern to abcb. I want one that doesn't really HAVE to rhyme, but sounds great anyways. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

When Angel's Cry
Our Mother's love will never die
That's why it's hard to say goodbye.
Goodbye to a smile, you've grown to love
as her soul ascends to the home above.
It's not for us to wonder why,
But, we plainly saw the Angel's cry.
With death awaiting life's last sigh
The will to live- she had to try.
The struggle great masked with pain
As she awaits her heavenly gain.
Then clouds thickened in the sky
All little Angels began to cry.
Tears are falling from up
Comfort's in knowing that God is nearby.
Children's hearts heavy with woe
'Cause it's hard to see your mother go!
Unselfish, devoted, she did not pry!
It's easy to see why the Angels cry.
Time is near and death's not shy,
The love you taught will always apply.
Go on to be with the One you love,
We'll see you again in our HOME above.
And as you are soreing through the skies,
Your presence will dry all the Angel's eyes.
G.L.
