I'm so used to writing poems with 4-6 abcb stanza's (that's what they're called, right? :S). I want to write my bf a poem for christmas. I started, and I immediatly starting my rhyming pattern to abcb. I want one that doesn't really HAVE to rhyme, but sounds great anyways. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

This is a common problem, one that nearly everyone that is a beginning writer faces. The solution is to take a look at poems with various and differing meters. It is amazing how quickly you can be influenced by a piece that touches you. The only way to become an adept writer is to take advantage of those that have come before you. Throughout eons of human history, stylistic templates have been developed that are yours for the taking. I have included some links to poets that heavily influenced me when I was younger, and I strongly suggest that you give them a look. Best of luck to you!

Interesting question. Good that you acknowledge your weakness so frankly.
Perhaps you could post here what you've written your bf so far.
