Eons ago, they were dignity, and horror of flames -
they became today memories and echoes,
smiles of clouds and birds' confabulations.
They, the irreplaceable, They, the unchanging...
For lazy Gods, they are guardians of the world,
For lovers they are the ideals, or oath of two hearts.
For children, they are children, but more beautiful,
and for poets - the very grandeur of the word,
For the departed - a white lillly which bloomed too soon,
and for the knights - the fire and the sword,
for the sleeping - a mere dream within a dream,
and for me... everything and nothing at once!
But for sprites, born of water brightness
they are neglected in azure legends...

yes, ANNABELLA, please say what it is... and we will talk later...
TD, the author is, to me at least, a genius, but a lot of what he said got lost in translation, I just tried to convey the feeling... he did write it in 1919...

1919 is among the strangest years in the history of mankind. The war to end all wars ended war, for a while. Humanity was shifting from neo-Gothic grandeur to Art Deco's freer expressions. In America, the Black Sox stripped away the veil of sportsmanship and showed professionalism to be dirty. Our opinions were changing. Soon, they would try to sober us up all at once. Look at how that turned out...am I done rambling yet?

This poem is about waves.
They are majestic, and put out fires.
They crash and fade away leaving only an echo behind.
Waves are never changing but never the same.
They stand guard over the borders of all the lands of the earth. Lovers swear upon the waves as they walk along the beach.
Children play in newborn waves as they frolic in the surf.
The departed are buried at sea among the white capped waves. that crested too soon.
And for knight they are waves of enemy soldiers marching toward them.
Perhaps it should be titled "Momentary immortals of the sea".

-I'm quite certain, all of the imagery points towards waves.
-My brother and uncle were 82nd Airborne. HUA
-I broke tradition a became a squid, so just trust me on the sea imagery.

heeere's anabella: ;-)

Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream
(edger allen Poe-that is)

do not reed between the " **", that I am not sure of. Who's got the missing line???

courage, strength,...

Take this kiss upon the brow,
and, in parting from me now,
Thus much let me avow,

You are not wrong who deem that my days have been a dream....
Yet, If hope has flown away,
In a night "-knight ha ha-" or in a day,

In a vision or in none,
Is it therefore the less-gone?

Is all that we see or seem
but a dream within a dream?

I stand amid(st) a "surfing" "wrore",
of a "surf" tormented shore,
and hold within my hand,
grains of the golden sand.

How few,
yet how they creep,
threw my fingers to the deep,
While I weep, while I weep.

Oh god,
can I not grasp them with a tighter "crasp",
Oh god,
can I not save them from the pittyless wave?
Is all that we see or seem,
but a dream within a dream?

How about that...
because "when you are old and grey, and full of sleep, and, knodding by the fire, take down this book and gently read...
that's aother one from Edgar :-)

Hello 101st: [ "All-The-Way"]

I have no idea what the answer to your question is, however - you're icon centainly caught my attention - takes me back a long ways.

Many [many, many . . ] moons ago [1969-1975], I was also one of those guys who "Fall out of the sky" - one of our favorite questions was, "Ya know, there's about 2 things that fall out of the sky - birdshit & fools - which one are you"?

Our favorite answer: "Probably a combination of both"

The 1969-1975 era included 1 year & 1 day across "The Big Pond"; functioned w/ 101st Air-Assult, & briefly attached to
"1st of 9th AIr-Cav".; those days are far, far behind me now, & that is where they will remain - HOWEVER;

Have you seen, "We Were Soldiers" - Mel Gibson {2002} ?
In my opinion, this is an EXCELLECT movie - based on
Lt. Col. Hal Moore - Nam - 1965-1966; the detail & accuracy, in many areas, are unbelievable. The 1st time I watched this, did not relieze that this was the actual beganning of the "Air-Cav"; Originated from 101st & 82nd.

Don't know about you, but I watch this movie by myself [well, not really - my dog gets to watch it with me].

Anyway, guess that's about enough of this stuff, huh.

[ JUMP-RUN ! ! ! ]

Thanks,

Ken C.

I think it would be about the two Fighter pilots of WWI which the are flying in order to protect the worlds weak people. "For children, they are children" this could refer to the young pilots of that war.And maybe a title like "The Legends of Europe's Skies"
