Is it better to stay safe at home, with all the warm fuzzies, or to venture forth into dark and dangerous waters for glory, story and adventure.

Upon disassociating one's self from the world and looking down at Earth like an alien studying the human population & behavior under the microscope, the world that we live in would seem bleak and meaninglessly repetitive. The systematic way of life: going to work, going to school, go shopping, go home, go eat, go sleep, and Lather Rinse Repeat.

For those true believers in religion, why do they invest so much into preparatory to the heavens and not on their current lives in this world when god made this world as a gift for humankind? To take it further, wouldn't it be blasphemous and insulting to god to not accept god's gift? sure seems like it.

To me the idea that this life serves no greater purpose, that life is just meaningless fertility, and that I am just a random blip in the space-time continuum, makes my life even more precious. Because my life can end any moment, I can truly embrace and appreciate life fully, taking advantage of it all while I am still alive.

You are walking in a forest. there is a troll standing there. There are two paths in a forest, one to the right, and one to the left. One way leads you out of the forest safely and the other way leads you to a very painful death by wild animals. You can ask the troll one question nonly. But, the troll tells the truth every other day. For example, if he tell the truth today, he will lie tomorrow. If he lies today, he will tell the truth tomorrow. You don't know which daya he is on. You have one question you can ask him to save your life. What will you ask him and WHY?

Very often you hear people say all the world needs is for people to love eachother more. Is that true though?

Think about what love brings: jealousy, selfishness, distrust, hate, etc.

An example:
We love our pets. So much so that in North America we spend far more on our pets than we donate to save people who are dying in poor countries.

Is that an example of love, or of selfishness? We love our pets because they're companions to us. We keep them so that *we* don't feel lonely. If they were a wild animal we would likely consider them a pest and try to scare them off so they don't get into our trash. It's the same animal, except in the latter case it doesn't do anything for us.

You can love a person, an animal, a piece of land, money, a way of life. All of these you love because of how it makes YOU feel. If it didn't make *you* feel great it wouldn't be important to you. Because of that, isnt love a selfish emotion?

Does the world really need more love? (more below)

Dear God:
I know that I'm a sinner. I deserve Hell. But You sent Jesus to die for my sins. I believe that He died and rose again. I ask you now to forgive my sins, once an for all. I now receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Personal Saviour. Please come into my heart and save me, Help me to know I am saved and live for You, the rest of my life. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.

William Gibson, the guy who coined the term, "cyberspace," thinks that the Net is a waste of time. It is a "global medium" that gives us "the opportunity to waste time." What do you think? If you agree, what are you doing on yahoo answers right now?

Most people are realists (believe in an objective physical world), whether they would like to think they are or not. I mean, just out of practical necessity, one can't spend their whole lives thinking:

"What if this is a dream?" "What if I'm in the matrix" "What if this is an illusion?"

Sooner or later, "reality" would kick their butts. They would have to eat or work or sleep, etc.

So, wrapping all of this up, do you think it takes faith to complete reason? In other words, do you think we need to have faith that we are in a REAL, objective, reality, in order to simply live our lives day-to-day, even though we cannot PROVE it with 100% certitude? Faith that our senses truly tell us what is "out there", faith that we aren't being deceived in any way?

Without a beginning point of some kind, some given, wouldn't everything digress into an infinite regress?

Thoughts...

most teachers and christians tell you you can not change the world and that you arte to worry about your own salvation nto others. they say i can not risk my soul going to hell for the sake of possibly bringing others closer to christ, and for the sake of helping to make this planet a more peacefull place to live, a safer place to live. but the bible tells me differrent. it says that if i lay my life down for another, then i will be received in the body of christ. it says that the person that wishes to save his own life will lose. so this last sentence it has two meanings. if you wish to save your life you must lay your life down, and second, if you are concerned with your own life more than the lives of others then you will not be accepted in the body of christ, you will lose your life that you expect to come in christ, for you are selfish. one way to be in the body of christ, that is to do things in the exact manner that christ would do them, or the body is no longer christ.

Its always good to focus on the positive things in life. It helps to keep the sanity and peace around. With all this talk about the War in Iraq, the morgage crisis, crime, politics and food or toy recalls, and while these things are apart of life nowadays, its good to turn to something positive for a change. At least so we wont lose our minds.
