Normal - anything I am not. Pax-C

2007-09-10 09:44:06 · answer #1 · answered by Persiphone_Hellecat 7 · 0 0

Normal is the character of the majority, which is composed of many individuals with the more or less similar perceptions. Normal, therefore, becomes usual occurrence.

Anything outside of the majority is the minority. Majority thinks the minority has odd perceptions because the minority is lesser in number and see things different from the many. Thus, abnormal is the not usual and not frequently perceived, according to the majority.

Of course, in the point of view of the minority, the majority could be wrong.

But since we hear the voice of the majority more often, the majority dictates the norm.

Sometimes, the majority is affirmed too frequently that what it perceives becomes so-called ultimate truth...

...until the minority retaliates with screaming lungs.

to me, normal represents the average of what people do/think/, at a certain time and place in a certain culture, it concerns more then just actions or behavior, but also attitudes and concepts of what is right and correct

so of course, normal varies, and people vary, there are very few that are literally at normal for any given thing or society, but most often will fall into societies idea of being normal, within the range that society has placed for a particular subject

being abnormal doesnt have to be a negative thing, many noted people who are revered and honered today were consider not quite "normal" by those around them

and most subjects are so complicated that you would have to look at each part to even determine what normal is for a particular group!

To me there is no such thing as normal, but there are places and situations where people decide what is the norm. And even how a person should act or look,so i guess normal always changes depending on where your at or who your with.

my deffinition of 'normal' is; a word that has been created by humanity to pursue a an aim to work towards because when you're 'normal' you will be happy, though no one in society is actually normal therefore it's really only a dream that aim for every wanting to be 'normal' will never be reached.

normal restricts in the most blunt way. of course all words have this potential, but this one seems to be the popular choice in this regard.

watch out when you hear the word normal. someone is trying to use it to shield themselves from their own fears.

of course it has a practical purpose, and for those restricted to the practical way of life, it may be comfortable to think this way. after all, misery loves company.

Lisa - to me, there's no such thing as "NORMAL." Everyone is different and what's normal is constantly changing.

To most people, normal means doing what everyone else is doing.

I am only two points from leveling so.... I think it is normal to desire what one lacks. I think this is a good response to your question since you posted in the philosophy section.
